Comment: Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I haven't read Lock & Key, but did watch the first season on Netflix. It really does have a Stephen King feel, for sure. :) I really like Joe Hill, though, too. :) In the Netflix show, I know the Key house is in Massachusetts - I think part of the outdoor filming was done not too far from where we lived in MA at the time, which is what got me to watch the show! It does look like a great place to explore. :) I hadn't heard of Up a Road Slowly, but I looked it up and added it to my TBR. IT looks like something I would like, not sure how I missed it. I had to laugh - long distance phone calls being a luxury was the way I was raised! haha Doesn't seem that old fashioned to me. :) haha Thanks for sharing! It was a lot of fun to read!

Comment: It is tough to read outside favorite genres, I have to agree. This article was a good reminder to me when I read and have to review romance type books - They are so unrealistic to everything in my life. Or are for a totally different age group. But also like you said with twisty books - I see those coming a mile out! haha I've really come to hate the 'unputdownable' reference (mostly because it's not a word!) because those books are such snooze-a-thons for me. So this article really helped me out. I was a bit different with Harry Potter - I had a friend who bugged me non-stop to read the books and finally made a deal with me that if I read the first 4 and didn't LOVE them she'd never bring it up again. I didn't love the first 4 books - and we didn't stay friends much longer. I did finally listen to all of HP with my kids and I thought they were ok, but no where near what others thought. Oh well. One of my pals told me about a book, "The Book of Lost Names" that is a WWII book - I avoid those because they are a bit over done lately - she hadn't read it, but thought it wounded good, so I read it and LOVED it, and passed it on to her. Hopefully she enjoys it. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Comment: Thank you for sharing your list. :) I've seen the Anna K books on reading lists, but haven't read them yet. Based on your comments, I think I'll be sure to skip the sequel. :) I actually only ever read the first Twilight book - it was ok to me, but not one where I couldn't get ahold of the next book. I think I watched the first movie, but I don't even remember it. It's always disappointing when an author changes the story from what you wish, isn't it? I lost interest in the Anita Blake series (Laurell K Hamilton) when she paired Anita up with Jean-Claud :( Poor choice to me! :) And - OH! Ink & Bone!!! Isn't that book great? I read them years ago and then we listened to the first book together as a family & the kids got caught up in the series, but books 2 &3 were a bit disappointing so we gave up! Have you ever watched the Librarians? I think there are books to - love anything in libraries! :) I might have to check out In Every Generation if I can find it - I'm a Buffy fan. :) Thanks for sharing your great list!

Response: I had read somewhere that they were pondering a TV movie like they used to do in the 90s. I love it so much. It is in my frequent rotation for rewatches. I'd love a reboot.

I have A.D.D. and can't sit still long enough to listen to them. I prefer regular books ( paperbacks & hardcovers) any day.😀

Response: You should definitely read World War Z, then. Seriously, the first time I read it, I'd find myself thinking about it as if it actually happened. It was amazing. The movie only looks at maybe 5% of the book. And even gets that wrong. If you like the movie, you'll love the book.

Comment: Wow, that was a big card! Where did you find it? :) It's great!! I'm sorry you haven't enjoyed all of your books so far. I think I read Mirrorland last year as an ARC and I didn't like it - wonder if the audio would be better? I just finished the audio of "Anatomy" by Dana Schwartz - it's a YA historical fiction where the girl is trying to be a doctor in the 1800's. Overall, I really enjoyed it, and recommend the audio - the narrator has a nice accent. :) I hope your Feb reads are going better. :)

Comment: This postcard made my day. It's so simple yet, it's one of my favorites I've received. In September, I did a 2 week training course in Atlanta, Georgia. After my training, my husband and I went all over Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabamba, South Carolina, etc. We had dinner in Chatanooga at a place called Smoky Bones Barb-b-Q, I believe. It was good. Thanks for the card. I'd be happy for you to email me the prompts for the Criminal Minds thing you talked about in your postcard.

Comment: Thanks for the cool postcard! Is "Dreams from my Father" an easier read than "A Promised Land?" I just couldn't get into that one. I did really enjoy Michelle Obama's book "Becoming." I prefer personal stories to behind-the-scenes politics! :)

Response: I haven't tried Promised Land, but this is definitely more of a personal story. More biographical. I'm enjoying it, though I need it to move faster because I'm on a deadline!

Comment: I totally agree! Most books that are banned are banned because they show of ugly truths about society or where society could go with extremes. I always thought it was ridiculous that people wanted to ban Harry Potter. I loved The Giver quartet too! Have you read all of them or just the 1st book?

Response: I’ve read them all, but I really only need The Giver. I don’t feel like the other three were necessary. If you write 3 more books, the universe should expand, and I didn’t feel that. I liked them all, don’t get me wrong. I just feel like the Giver is much stronger as a stand alone. Admittedly, it has been a long while since I’ve read the other 3, though. Perhaps they deserve to be revisited.

I remember hearing about banned books and the like, but I never really knew what people were talking about. :) I did try to use the argument a book was banned so we shouldn't have to read it in high school - b/c I didn't want to read the book - but my teacher said my argument wasn't strong enough, so I had to read it anyway. :) haha I've never been happy to be forced to read a certain book at a certain time, so that was probably the issue. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Comment: TBH I'm no longer vegan. I dabbled in it here and there but I've found that pescatarian is working well for me.

Response: I would love to be pescatarian, but I truly hate the taste of fish. I have tried to get over it because I'm an adult and shouldn't be like, "Ew, fish." But it is just too gross. So I am mostly vegetarian, but still eat meat on occasion (like when my hubby or mil cook).

Comment: Kristen--what an accomplishment for your summer! WOW! I'm not sure I could enjoy the mud part--let alone be fit enough to do any of the event! You can be very proud of your accomplishment! You earned this heart for making it through the Zombie 5-K! At 63, I don't think I'll be trying anything near that--I'll stick to my bicycling as soon as my hand has recovered from surgery in mid-July. I still have a month or more of physical therapy before they can allow me to begin strengthening work for the hand which is a bit essential for shifting gears and using the brakes! I was up to 9 mile rides when I had to stop for the surgery. Hubby and I hope to work our way to making 20 miles rides. I'm determined to get back out there as soon as surgeon will allow! Thanks for sharing your amazing summer accomplishment! It has helped motivate me to get back to that bicycle by sticking with all of the rehab exercises I'm to do every day! I remember going to the book mobile (a moving library that came to small towns that had no library) every 2 weeks and getting a new joke book. Comment: Thanks for the spooky note! I think most people can admit to pitch black darkness being pretty spooky, and it is usually worse when you are alone! There is definitely a big difference between the city and country darkness because of light pollution so I can definately understand that. Thanks for the lovely notecard--I will definitely be cutting up the front to use for other projects (and I wish I went to a school like that with the other card you included!).

Response: Yea, I realize it was cut way short, but I wrote it on the 2nd, so didn't have time to keep going! I've been reading a lot of post-apocolyptic fiction. It was on my mind!

Comment: I'm not usually big on fantasy-style artwork but your *Yellow City* PC captivated me, so thank you! I am appalled your city doesn't offer plastics recycling with the garbage collection. That's pretty lax of them! Is there at least a recycling facility you can drive to easily enough? You should get together with a few likeminded people, each save a month's worth of the kinds of plastics (eg. PET bottles, etc) and metals (eg. empty steel & aluminium cans) that you would otherwise recycle, and dump it all at your local council office's front door! Preferably *not* in a garbage bag, hehe. (Unless it's a tiny town and you think you might get caught.) :X You could leave a letter explaining the mess, or a copy of that book. ;)

Comment: The stories were awesome! I adore futuristic dystopia, so the first two really struck a chord with me. The third seemed like a really interesting beginning to a novel I want to read! The first one reminded me a lot of Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery", which you should definitely read if you never have.
