I always have a hard time writing these things. I always feel like I'm writing too much or not enough. takes a deep breath Well, here goes anyway.
The word that I would happily use to describe me at the moment is "mom". I have two little boys - Teddy (5) and Peter (3) - who delight me every day with the things they learn and the love they gives. I'm a stay at home mom and it's the career I feel I was born to do.
Another word that I like to hear in my description is "wife". I've got a wonderful, loving, humorous, fantastic man that bring me joy every day. And he lets me stay at home to be mama, so that really can't be beat either.
Of course, my cat calls me "slave". Even with my attention taken by my husband and my sons, he still makes his wishes known and, quite often, gets his way. You'd think he'd be a little more humble, having been a stray, but he also knows that I'm wrapped quite firmly around his little paw. He's been given a bit more love than usual since we lost his brother 3 months ago.
On a more serious note (though I truly do feel blessed to have the family that I do), I'm a 37 year old woman who enjoys a little bit of everything. I read voraciously, love to watch movies, listen to music, write, play games... I like just having something to DO and something to help expand my imagination. I've been a role-player for about 15 years, a board game player for even longer.
I've lived various places up and down the east coast of the US. At the moment, I'm the furthest inland I've ever been, living in Nashville for a few years. I definitely love that southern cooking! I love finding new and different things to explore here (and anywhere else I've been, honestly) and will sometimes just drive, ending up somewhere I'd never expected.
Life is to be lived. And I'm really enjoying doing so.
Tori Amos, Barenaked Ladies, Queensryche, Bond, Heather Dale, Weird Al Yankovic, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Jo Dee Messina, Broadway, Celtic, Country, Alternative... I just love music.
Primarily, I read fantasy and mystery, but I love to get into just about anything. I've got a real interest in reading about True Crime. Some of the series that I like are The Dresden Files, anything by Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham's Campion books, The Women of the Otherworld, Kay Hooper's Bishop/SCU series, Harry Potter, and the books about Dewey, the Library Cat. And I can't forget the Amber Novels by Roger Zelazny.
I also have been getting into comics quite a bit lately. I'm a huge DC fan - particularly Green Arrow. I just think he rocks. I also adore Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. I often compare myself to Delirium. (Come to think of it, anything that Gaiman writes is brilliance in every sense of the word.)
Pan's Labyrinth, The 10th Kingdom, The King and I, Jesus of Montreal, Ever After, The Red Violin, Toy Story (all 3), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Fox and the Hound, The Five People You Meet in Heaven
Doctor Who (both old and new series), Charmed, The Pretender, The Commish, Cracker (the British version), Dungeons and Dragons, Dexter, Batman the Brave and the Bold, Scooby Doo: Mystery Inc, Burn Notice, Adventure Time, In Plain Sight, White Collar, Rizzolli and Isles, Covert Affairs, Psych, Babylon 5, Star Trek, Phineas and Ferb, No Ordinary Family... I'm sure there a lot more that I'm not remembering at the moment. We got rid of cable recently and went strictly to Netflix/Hulu, so I'm a bit behind on what's current.
Cross-stitch, puzzles, a little knitting, a little crocheting, loop weaving (like the kind that you make potholders out of). I'm just starting to get into stamping and willing to try a lot of different new crafts, as long as it isn't too terribly expensive. I also got some scrapbooking things for Christmas and I want to scrapbook my 2011.
I'm generally easy going with anything I get, but I know that it's easier sometimes when you know what your partner likes, doesn't like or really wants.
Likes
This list is far from exhaustive and I'll probably add to them as I think of more.
Dislikes
Yeah, this list is far from exhaustive either. But it's all I can think of right now. (I try to focus on the positive rather than the negative.)
Wants
I'm trying to learn a few new crafts, and I need certain things to help with that.
I may occasionally join a swap for members of my family, so here's a bit about them.
My husband, Rich
He's as geeky as I am. His first geek love is Doctor Who. He's been watching it since he was a kid. He's also been gaming since he was 10 and is willing to try just about any system out there. He's more of a fantasy geek than a Sci-Fi geek, preferring the Amber novels by Zelazny to the Foundation novels by Asimov. He's also enjoys reading comics (he's the one that got me into them).
Aside from the geekery, he's the one in our family with the best sense of humor. He and my boys watch a lot of comedy together - Whose Line is it Anyway?, Three Stooges, Terry Fator are just a few of his favorites. He's also the cook. He's willing to experiment in the kitchen and he's pretty darn good at it too.
Rich is a scientist by trade. For awhile, he actually worked in research, but realized that the long hours weren't what he wanted. He's now working in Biosafety. But he geeks for anything science.
My 5 year old, Teddy
Teddy is turning into the same little geek that Mommy and Daddy are. He watches comedy with Daddy, loves Batman, Spiderman, Plastic Man and most other comics that come his way. He's also into a lot of the other cartoons that are aimed for his age - Spongebob, Dora, Diego, Phineas and Ferb, Adventure Time (ok, those last two are aimed a little older than him, but he still loves them). He's also a huge reader - most nights, he'll read a bedtime story to his little brother. He's been getting a lot of kids graphic novels out of the library lately too (though he can't seem to get "graphic novel" in his brain and continually calls them "super model"). And we've started going to a local comic shop so he can pick up issues of Tiny Titans.
But his biggest love is Pokemon. He's totally addicted. He watches the cartoons. We bought him a used GBA so he can play the games. He has stuffed Pokemon, Pokemon figurines, Pokemon books... anything he can get his hands on. His favorite Pokemon changes from day to day, but at the moment it's a tie between Uxie (thanks, @wunderland and Piplup.
He's also starting kindergarten this fall, so anything kindergarten or school related is a plus!
My 3 year old, Peter
Pete loves his big brother. So pretty much anything that Teddy is into, Pete shows an interest in. He's still figuring out his own likes (though he's got his own personality down pretty good). At the moment, he's really big into super heroes. He's started to get into knock knock jokes as well, thanks to his brother.
One of his big loves, not shared as much by his brother, is cars. He loves anything on four wheels. Big, small, doesn't matter. He'll take it and drive it anywhere. He's also gotten pretty big into dinosaurs, calling all of them "roar". He's really a typical boy.
I've been lucky enough not to have been flaked on often. In fact, there's only been one time when I've felt it necessary to ask for an angel. And that angel really went above and beyond in the package that was sent (for the I really, really, REALLY Want... Swap). @PJ you truly are an angel and I really appreciate you coming to the rescue for me!
Yes, I have two 3s in my ratings. One is from 2007, I think. Anyway, it was a long time ago and I honestly can't remember the reason for the 3. But I haven't disputed it. The other is more recent... from May. It was an e-mail photo swap and, through a host of things going on (like a broken camera and a bunch of family things going on), I was a little late getting it out. I think I was a week late. Again, I don't dispute this. But if anyone is looking at my profile and is curious about what is up with these lower marks, here's why.

Hi I am your partner for the make a friend, swap-bot style! I liked the part of your profile about your family- I think that is very sweet! I have added Dr. Who to my netflix watch list, I am going to start watching! Also, your boys remind me of my little brothers who are the same age. I also just started stamping, and I like it so far. I am happy to see we have so much in common, it was great learning more about you! Have a great day.

Amber! I had a lot of fun reading your profile, it seems you have a great passion and desire to learn, I love that!
Also, your husband got you into Doctor Who? That's fantastic! I've come across few people residing outside of the UK/Australia/NZ who entertain the thought of British TV, let alone a Sci-Fi series that's been going on for nearly 1000000000 years, haha very cool. Plus it cracked me up seeing you like Charmed. You're just about the only other person in the world who I've met who can sit through an entire episode of that show. But I love it as well!
Anyway, this comment has gone on long enough, I'll leave some room on your profile for everyone else! Bridie
Here is a flower too brighten up your day! From The SWMHC
I don't remember whether I ever acknowledged your thanks for the Dr. Who stuff ... I had a hectic couple of weeks before I left for vacation and wasn't online much so have lost track a little :-/
But, you are welcome and I hope your creativity might have been sparked by the items!
Will keep you in my thoughts for things to settle down for you.
I will be sending my mini journal to you soon as the send date is coming up on us. I do hope you can return to swapping soon in the near future.
Hugs, Sandy
