I live in South Carolina, in a house that's always busy with 2 dogs, a white and black kitty, a little boy, a husband who goes on too many business trips, and usually half the children in the neighborhood. I spend my days caring for my animals, cooking, crafting and playing in my little vegatable garden. I grew up like a North American nomad, at last count I had moved 15 times in my life, everywhere in the east from Florida to Newfoundland. I've also traveled to Chile and Germany, and I can't wait to go do some more globe trotting. I am shy, but at the same time I absolutely love all kinds of people, and I've honestly never met a boring person because everyone has love, drama, heartbreak and secrets in their life. So I love getting to know people, writing letters and learning about other people's culture and experiences.
I don't know what my favorite kind of music is really.. I listen to a lot of classic rock, old jazz, folk music, a bit of country, a bit of modern stuff.
My most favorite book of all time is Walden. I read it the first time when I was 16 and have read it once a year since then. Every single time I read it, I find that I'm directed back into a discovery of myself and what I'm really all about... it's just a great, great book.
Once I come up for air from reading Walden, I also love reading history, biographies, crafty books and mysteries of the Agatha Christie variety. By the way, I just decided last week to collect and reread every mystery Agatha Christie wrote, but I only have one so far. So if you have one of her paperbacks that you can part with, I would love to have it!
Knitting is my longest lasting craft love so far. I started when I was about 4 or 5 and haven't stopped since. I've also been doing a ton a thread crochet lately, and I quilt too. I want to learn to make earrings too.
My other favorite crafts would have to be anything invovling my six year old and a box full of glitter, paint, chenille pipe cleaners, beads and glue. (if you have a munchkin in kindergarten, you know what I'm talking about!)
So here is a little list of assorted things I like:
Cats (look at my flickr page to see Daisy!)
My Dogs Barkley and Mini, and anything related to shelter or rescue dogs (they're also on my flickr page!)
snow and snowflakes
wool yarn
handmade purses, handbags, tote bags, etc
Ritter Sport bars of the Knusperkeks variety.
sock yarn
anything sheep-related.
gardening
ice hockey - would love to have any hockey items featuring national teams
My hubby is German, and I love stuff that reminds me of my home-away-from-home! Milka Chocolate, Haribo, yarn from Wolle-RΓΒΆdel, anything related to Stuttgart VfB... not so much into the super-touristy stuff, just good German stuff you can't get here so easily!
Asian-inspired fabrics, traditional or modern
Real black tea, not herbal or fruit tea. Ex: Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Prince of Wales tea... all good!
I'm a Christian, so if you want to send me Easter/Christmas stuff, or crosses, etc, that's just fine with me :-)
above all, I love to receive things that someone else made for me with care. Even if it's not on this list, I am always delighted to have anything that someone was thoughtful enough to put their time and effort and good wishes into.
Novelty/eyelash type yarns... I like the stitches in my knitting to be visible.
"Dark" things... skeletons, grim reaper, vampires, etc (although I do like Edward Gorey very much... go figure.)
Fruity or herbal "tea". All I drink is black tea from actual tea plants, not mint or rosehips or whatever.
Anything obnoxious. Happy Bunny, bad language, people with the need to inflict their anti-whatever views on other people... I'm a mellow person and those things disrupt the mellowness :-)
Lavender or peach scented stuff. I don't really object to actual lavender, but anything like candles or lotion scented that way... not for me!
