Description:

Well as the name says it, it's a Mixed Media Quote Notebook! XD

Γ’β„’Β₯ Guidelines

  1. You have to make your own quote notebook and fill it with quotes! Make the notebook with any materials you want or can think of! You can knit or crochet the cover, make it a painting, use fabric, recycled paper (so much fun!) sand, bedazzle it! Anything at all! Just take your partners likes and dislikes into consideration when your creative juices start to flow!

  2. Divide your quotes into categories such as, love, friendship, politics, music, history, wisdom, kindness, movies, family, children, funny, etc, you get my point. This is because I like to read quotes depending on my day or mood. HAVE 5 CATEGORIES, 5 QUOTES PER CATEGORY. (you can add more categories if you want, not mandatory)

  3. Write 1 or 2 of your own quotes! Put your name beside those quotes!

  4. DO NOT just go out and buy a book and fill it with quotes, send something you'd like to receive, be nice and really give it your all!

  5. Write a little introduction note in your quote book for your partner. Doesn't have to be long, not too short either! You can tell them about yourself or what inspired you to use your materials, or why you picked the quotes, etc, etc. Be rambly and crazy if you'd like.

  6. Careful when wrapping you finished craft and make sure its not falling apart.

  7. DON'T just add stickers on the cover of a notebook.

  8. Leave some space in each category, in case your partner wants to add more quotes.

  9. ADD a cute or cool pen in your package :)

Example: The picture I added as an example is a book I made out of traditional Amate paper. The painting is a traditional Mexican Amate panting, and the pages are made of pink recycled paper.

Γ’β„’Β₯ Requirements

How many categories/pages should it have?

gabitastooks 06/30/2010 #

I dunno, maybe 10 and up? What do you think? :)

Whiskey 06/30/2010 #

This looks really interesting, and I love quotes, but I haven't done any notebooks here on SwapBot yet. Could you link to a few examples of what you have in mind? Size, materials, construction, etc.

Thanks!

erica265 06/30/2010 #

I am nervous too. I make notebooks that are recycled, but they aren't very decorated. Some examples would be awesome! :)

gabitastooks 06/30/2010 #

ok size, a normal notebook size, like http://www.cnpromotiongifts.com/UpLoadFile/note-book-with-pen-set-be4008-1296.jpg

materials, seriously anything at all, http://www.jolio.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/notebook-magazine-a-jolio.jpg or http://1.bp.blogspot.com/YptxCGFmnvk/Rt-o0qYX-I/AAAAAAAAAHA/x4E717wCEqY/s320/mixed%2Bmedia%2Bbook.jpg

you can do a painting, or make it with fabric, stuff like that.

The paper for the notebook can be normal paper, but the cover can be made of hard recycled paper, and just add some flowers, or ribbon even, whatever comes to your head! It doesn't have to be super complicated, just nice! like for example if I like the color red and flowers, then use red materials and flowers, get my drift?

WOULD ANYONE LIKE ME TO MAKE THE DATE FOR A LITTLE LATER, SO YOU HAVE MORE TIME TO WORK ON YOUR QUOTE BOOK?

BeverlyBling 07/ 5/2010 #

Yes please - I'm watching just now. Would love to extend myself creatively and sign up but since I work full time on my own business, 7 days is not long enough to make a notebook and source about 50 quotes (10 quotes in 5 categories if I've read this correctly)

gabitastooks 07/ 7/2010 #

ok no problem!!! I'll extend the dates everyone!

gabitastooks 07/ 7/2010 #

I hope this helped!

This is a very intriguing swap that I would enjoy but there are a couple of things that make me nervous so just putting it on my watchlist for now but in the interest of helping Newbies on the site I want to explain my point of view ....

The requirements are not clear .. number of categories is arbitrary and could cause some hard feelings if one person creates 20 categories and receives a book with only 10. It would be best to say a specific number in the description and then it is up to you if you want to include more knowing it is more than expected.

Also, 10 days is a very very very short time to prepare something of this magnitude. With a minimum of 10 categories and based on the swap description of number of quotes in each category, that is between 100 and 200 quotes to be found, reviewed and written in the book. This is alot of writing over above creating/decorating a cover for the book. If this is the only swap you are in, that might be okay but that is rare on this site, My suggestion would be at least 3 weeks (21 days).

My last concern is that it seems this swap is going to be very selective on who will be allowed to participate. It is interesting that you demand that Newbies contact you before they sign up. With only having 7 swaps behind you, making you a Newbie yourself, making this is a very interesting requirement.

I hope this all makes sense ...

ladyhope 07/17/2010 #

This looks fun and I am interested in doing it but I am also concerned that maybe 10 days isn't long enough. Between work and class, I feel like I will need more time than this allows for.

Whiskey 07/18/2010 #

This looks really neat, but I don't know if i could come up with 10 to 20 quotes per category. (At least not quotes I like.) That's really my main concern. Plus I'm already at my max with ATCs and trying not to add anymore handmade stuff until I get those swaps finished! Will you maybe do it again in the future? I really love this idea!

BeverlyBling 07/19/2010 #

I wish this was edited to have, say, a lovely book with 20 quotes in total. That for me would be managable.

gabitastooks 07/20/2010 #

Hey guys, I changed the dates again, Made it clearer. 25 quotes in total, 5 categories, 5 quotes in each. I only asked newbies to contact me first, in order to explain the requirements further. I know I am a newbie myself, but I always make sure to add a big extra in everything I do. So I'm confident about this swap. Hope more people join, I'm sorry for all the confusions! :)

Craftymom85 08/ 6/2010 #

I would REALLY love to do this, but I am a newbie, can't afford international postage and 10 days isn't long enough. So maybe someone can do a USA based one and give a few more days and accept newbies. I love journals and quotes. I reffer to several quotes when I'm having a horrible time in life. Maybe this can be taken ito consideration.

AnnasCuriosities 08/ 6/2010 #

I'm new, but interested in joining this swap! What do I need to know? :)

EightofDiamonds 08/ 9/2010 #

Just one thing isn't clear to me now: does it have to be handmade in its entirety (like the description seems to say) or can I use a store-bought notebook and then decorate it (like many of the example pics showed)? And I'm not meaning to just put a sticker there and call it ready but more like you can barely see the original cover like many of the example pics..

taagh 08/10/2010 #

nice topic, (unfortunately) i just have one my own news pieces notebook, and don't have the time to create a quote notebook, but i wish all of you a delightful swap ;)

Arachnea 08/21/2010 #

@EightofDiamonds - from what I can see, all the examples are hand bound journals that have then been decorated via mixed media. I could very well be wrong - those are some great examples :)

gabitastooks 08/23/2010 #

YOU CAN BUY THE NOTEBOOK, and decorate it using your own ideas, just not with stickers, that's what I meant, make the cover with any materials you want, but you don't have to make every single page out of recycled material, you can if you want to, but you really dont!

What Eight of Diamonds said is right, @EightofDiamonds - from what I can see, all the examples are hand bound journals that have then been decorated via mixed media.

Any more questions, please send me a msg directly. thanks guys!
