Description:

This is a "Block of the Month" project, and will continue each month until we will then be able to piece them all together, into a quilt! If you have any specific color choices, please list them here - but please leave the design and construction of the pieces, to the creator.

You will have two partners for this swap. You will make three quilt squares for each of your two partners (a total of SIX squares - all the same, or all different - your choice). This is an INTERNATIONAL Swap (These pieces will be lightweight and easily mailed.)

Square Details:

  • The squares will measure 10.5" x 10.5" "raw edge to raw edge" - when sewn together, they will then measure 10" x 10" square.
  • Square design and construction is SENDERS choice.
  • Senders, please try to honor COLOR requests by your partner
  • Squares can be hand or machine stitched
  • Use whatever technique you wish. These can be pieced, appliqued, embroidered, embellished with beads, buttons, fancy stitching, etc.
  • Use all cotton or cotton/polyester blend (nothing "stretchy" please)
  • Please "sign" your squares, either by embroidering your initials, or your first name, on at least ONE of your squares, to send to your partner.
  • This are the squares that will make up the quilt top. There is no batting or backing on the individual squares.

Swap Details:

  • This swap will be open to newbies , as long as they have a well filled-out profile and message me for approval (and yes, I'll check.)
  • You must have a rating of at least 4.8, with no recent no-sends. If you think you've been unfairly rated, let me know, and we can discuss it.
  • You will have a MONTH to complete each round.
  • Please do NOT sign up for this swap if you do not think you can commit to a longer term goal - this will go on each month of 2009
  • If you did not sign up for all 12 rounds in 2009 you will not have as many squares at the end of the year, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t join in!! You can either just make a lap quilt or if there is interest we can extend the series, or you can alternate your swapped squares with solid squares, sashing, or your own squares to make a bigger quilt.

Any questions, post them here, or message me.

~~A message from the swap series originator, gramsbuttonbox~~ Please put some heart into these squares - I have made quilts from fabrics sent from all over the world, and every one of them warms my heart! (check out my website to see what I mean!)

I'm trying to decorate in a woodsy theme, so I'd like the colors of the woods and forest animals, like greens, browns, tans, and berry colors. Thanks!

Hubby says no pink so please limit the amount of pink :-)

GreeleyGirl 02/15/2009 #

I love earthtones. Particularly fond of sunset colors, think reds, oranges, and yellows. Thank you :)

crazygirl 02/16/2009 #

I love all colors, but would really appreciate a touch of red in each square! Thanks!

Jewel tones for me and metallic is an added plus, am planning a quilt for our master bedroom. What fun!

Yay! Round two! I am looking to make a rainbow colored quilt - so lots of bright colors would be great! Thanks!

lob 02/19/2009 #

Shades of green , please.

StaciJane 02/24/2009 #

I'd like to have a finished quilt in greens, mustardy yellows and burgandy. Think folk art / country colors.

lilyofvalley 02/25/2009 #

I would enjoy receiving blocks in bright spring colors: greens, pinks, yellows, lavender, blues -- you know "springy!". Thanks.

MrsAnnaSue 02/25/2009 #

This has inspired me to start a traditional Christmas quilt, so my colors will be primarily red, green, cream and white.

Craftlover10101 02/26/2009 #

I love pastels but mostly creamy pinks-yellows-lavender shabby chic, roses. Thank you! :-)

auntielolo 02/26/2009 #

I like brights--pink, apple green, robin blue, orange, yellow, true white. Bright, but not neon!

sewcrazytwo 02/27/2009 #

I make a second try on this, I have only received from one swappartner yet and it´s was not the kind of fabrics I asked for :(. I´ll try one more round and see if it gets better.

I´m going to sew a quilt of homespun squares. Homespun is a woven fabric and if you´re not sure what it is please check for example www.memesquilts.com or write to me. It´s easy to find, quite inexpensive (depends on what brand you pick, you don´t have to choose something like Moda or new lines from Memes) and I have no preferenses in colours or patterns, just that it is these fabrics.

If you are new to quilting I understand and 9 patch or log cabin are just fine, if you want to do something above that I only see it as a un surprise :).

I will quilt you nice squares and make sure I do something you like so if you are my partner and have questions please feel free to contact me!

Kicki, The swap does not state that the partner has to purchase a specific fabric or type of fabric. You can put in these requests but you can not expect or rate your partner poorly if you do not get what you are requesting. Basically this type of swap is done for what you have in your cupboard/stash. The only requirement is that it is cotton or a cotton blend. The swap owner has asked that the partners TRY to honor the color choices which also means that if you don't get your color's that is also not a requirement so you can not rate poorly if you do not get your color choices. Sure it would be nice but what you are writing in your letter is that maybe you should look into another higher quality swap or making your own swap up. I'm sorry that you have been disappointed in the past. But please read all rules throughly before joining any swap.

The majority of us swappers here appriciate that you will put your all into anything you make for them as the majority gives the same in return. There are far more of us that do than don't but remember this is also for fun, and sometimes friendship.

Oh no, I would never give a poor rating to someone who has made an effort in making me something. Never ever. I regret writing the above since it sounds worse than I actually intended it to, I´m very sorry for that. To be crispy clear, if you don´t have these fabrics (and end up my partner) I also have a green, red and dark blue project that needs squares. I don´t want to make someone anxious about doing a fun swap, so please feel free to choose :)

Hope that sounds a bit better than my last comment, I really didn´t mean it to be bitchy, sorry for that.
