Description:

You are signing up to participate in a tip-in altered book swap. A tip-in is basically just like book altering, but instead of getting a book with pages to alter Γ’β‚¬β€œ you create pages to put in or to create an altered book. All tip-ins have different size requirements. For this one I would ask that you take an 8 ½ x 11 inch sheet of sturdy cardstock and turn it so that the height is 8 ½ and the width is 11. Fold the sheet across (horizontally) so you have a double page spread. Then alter away!!!

The theme for this swap is Ò€œblue".. anything blue from paint to embellishments.. no specific subject matter - that part is up to you. You will have 2 partners and you will need to send one double page spread to each of your partners Γ’β‚¬β€œ and you will receive one back from each of your partners. I would also like for you to make a signature tag for each of the double page spreads you send out so that if your pages are included in a book the owner can have info on all of the artists. Remember to leave an allowance in the middle of the spread to allow for binding, keep bulky embellishments away from the center of the page, and try to minimize heavy embellishments.

The ultimate goal would be to have enough pages for an entire book Γ’β‚¬β€œ so I plan on posting more of these swaps.

No one with more than 2 "no sends", please. If you have a low rating, please PM me to explain, or you will not be allowed in this swap. Everyone deserves to receive their tip-ins. Thanks!

do you have an example online of this? I am having trouble visualizing it...

simplysarah 03/ 6/2007 #

since its for a book do we do both sides of the page??? or simply one side of the paper to make for 2 pages... ?

http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger/1393/3152/1600/352690/DSC01696.jpg Windchimes have a look at this from the last 'green' swap.........its not mine but will give you an idea and simply sarah, central areas only......despite my getting carried away and doing all sides on my 'green' tip ins.....................dohhh, I was having so much fun and got carried away! If you google 'altered pages or books' you will find any amount of sites with pics to get an idea x

apologies lob, didnt mean to jump in xx

Not a problem. Thanks for helping explain!

Okay. I get it! This is cool. Now for the really stupid question. You get your tip-ins. And when you get a bunch of them, how to do "attach" them or put them together. In other words, how do you get from a pile of papers to a book?

pootle 03/10/2007 #

Any advice on the signature tag? Is it actually just a tag with a hanging loop/ribbon and my personal details or something more specific? Does size matter? (teehee)

liniecat 03/11/2007 #

Pootle thats an age old question lass!!! I guess the tag can be whatever you feel inclined it to be? To compliment the page that youve created? These are our arty-farty bits afterall .... lol, where the 'Muse' takes us off on a wanderlust of creativity, or as far as the kettle in my case for a contemplative cupper but.........I reckon a tag that drags on the floor IS probably too large and no, we dont need to put hip or bust measurements on them!!! lolol :)

Unfortunately I am going to have to leave this swap due to some other time constraints. I am sure I will be involved in others of this type - it is so hard to let swaps go you want to do but I had to do some picking and choosing. I'll see y'all around Swap-Bot though!

Hi everyone,

I have just discovered altered books. I have finished 3 books for my grandaughters. They are called Taylor's Wishes, Samantha's wishes, and Jordan's Wishes. Each one inside has a niche where they are to place their wishes in. THe front has a window with their picure in it. Also painted, metal taped, tissue papered decorated outside and inside...Lady bugs, butterflies and ocean fish.

I need some coaching on this swap. I have read the directions, but still not sure how it works..How do you work with others? Where do you send the finished product? Do we get to see what the "book" looks like when done? Thanks Vickie

Hi Vickie! Fro this swap, you will be making 2 tip-ins, which you will send one each to 2 partners. The computer here at swap-bot will randomly assign your 2 partners after the sign-up deadline (March 18th) has passed. You'll be able to read the name and address of the partners you send to, under Your Swaps. Each of your swaps will then have a line (with a link) that says: View See partners you send to I have sent

So, on March 19th, you can click on "see partners" and you'll get the name and address of 2 partners. These are the 2 people you will send one tip-in each to. After you've sent them, please return and click on "I have sent".

No, I don't think we'll get to see anything other than our own book of tip-ins. Unless someone uploads what they get and put together onto flickr.com.

So, you'll receive one tip-in each from 2 different partners. You can use these to add to an existing Altered book you have or to one you start specifically for these tip-ins.

The altered books you've already made sound wonderful! I don't mind answering your questions, so if you have anymore, go ahead and ask. So glad you're joining us in this swap, Vickie!

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. I am really excited about this swap! I hope I don't disappoint anyone on my tip-ins. I think I have some great ideas, I hope my partners will think so too.

thanks again vickie

I uploaded my tip ins to my flickr. They went out the other day.

Since this is the first altered book tip in that I have been in I just signed the back. I didn't know we where to 'tag' them.
