Description:

Hey folks, welcome to my first ever hosted swap. In this swap you will be sending one craft magazine to each of your two assigned partners. Please take the time to look through your partners profile to see what kind of crafts they do. You can either buy a magazine especially, but it is not necessary, it is about passing on magazines you have read and no longer need. But please make sure they are in good condition with no missing and ripped pages.

Please only sign up if you are willing to send internationally. I am happy for newbies to join, but your profile must be well filled out. I will be checking all profiles and reserve the right to ban anyone whose profile isn't up to scratch and anyone with a lot of bad ratings. I will review every case individually. I want all of us to have a happy swap. Also, please bear with me and post any concerns/feedback below as this is my first hosted swap it is a learning curve for me too.

Be aware that you may receive a magazine in a foreign language. Also you may receive magazines that are about a craft you may not be interested in/have tried before. Do not mark down for this, it is about being inspired so hopefully it'll inspire you to take up a new craft, make ideas in the magazine your own etc.

Please feel free to post below what kinda crafts you are into, what magazines you may be looking for and what magazines you already own or buy yourself regularly. Just to make it easy for everyone and to get an idea of what to send.

If anyone does not receive either of their 2 magazines (hopefully that won't happen) I will step in and send you something. But as we all have two partners you should at least receive something.

Brendasue 09/16/2011 #

I would like to join, but down here in Paraguay, it's very hard to get a english craft magazine.

BarkleysMommy 09/16/2011 #

@Brendasue I'd love to add some non-English craft magazines to my collection. :-)

BarkleysMommy 09/16/2011 #

Just a quick comment for the new hostess:

@anikraft regardless of the "likes" of your participants, you have no control over how partners are assigned.

BTW... This is a great swap concept and I am watching for now. Is this a swap you would be willing to angel if any participant fails to send?

anikraft 09/16/2011 #

@brendasue You are very welcome to join, as long as you have magazines to send out, in any language you can join in!

@barkleysmommy As I said this is my first hosted swap so I am still learning but when I looked through the t&c's and that it said I will be assigning the swap partners. I will check this out again. I will angel, depending on how big this swap gets, if it's one or two people not having received their packages then of course I will help out. I will definitely keep a close eye on who signs up and that and hopefully we won't have that problem. But I am here to make this a happy swap for everyone!!!

ladydy5 09/16/2011 #

Wish this was USA only.

anikraft 09/16/2011 #

@ladydy5 Sorry this has to be international as I am in the UK. Whats your concern with it being international? Or is it the postage cost?

Whiskers 09/16/2011 #

I think this is a great idea for a swap. If I could join more than once I would.

coleenfranks 09/16/2011 #

I would love to receive pre-2009 Cloth Paper Scissors if anyone has those or anything Stampington/Somerset. Old is Ok. I'm sending from Ukraine, but I have English mags.

smmarrty 09/16/2011 #

anikraft - As the host/organizer, you just hit a link that says "Assign partners" on the last day of sign-ups. You don't have any control over who gets whom as their partner.

And keep in mind, you cannot send magazines "Media Mail" rate because of the advertising. You can lie, but I wouldn't chance it.

anikraft 09/16/2011 #

@whiskers I will send you a private message, maybe you fancy a private swap in the meantime? If all goes well I'll do this swap more often. I always have magazines to swap and love to see ones from other countries for new ideas.

@coleenfranks Hello, nice to see you again!

@smmarrty Done more research now and I do get the idea. Thanks for the heads up though. Also, you can send magazines overseas from the UK under the Printer Paper rate which is a tiny bit cheaper. But you cant include a letter or anything else then. And, we had been emailing regarding a private swap ages ago, if you still fancy that gimme a shout!

papercaper 09/16/2011 #

I'm going to watch but doubt I'll be able to join, sadly. This may only be a problem for me and not others, but this looks expensive to me for a swap-bot swap. I'm used to continually having to pay for international postage from Australia here, and that's ok, but with the weight of a magazine, the cost of a magazine (can be pretty expensive in Aus, esp overseas mags, although I'd deffo send an Aussie one if I found a good one), and then the thought of doubling that cost for a 2nd partner, this swap could easily set me back around $50! And our dollar is almost neck-and-neck with the US dollar. If you do this swap again and happen to reduce it to 1 partner, please PM me. I'd love to be involved! Have fun on this one. It's a great idea.

anikraft 09/17/2011 #

@papercaper I understand that this could turn out to be expensive but like I said before if it's a success for me as a host I will do this swap more often. And then I'll do one with just one partner. Also, this may not have come across from my description (I apologize, I will edit it) but it is not about buying a magazine especially. It's about passing on magazines you have read and no longer need. In the meantime, maybe you fancy a private swap with just 1 partner, ie myself. I'm always up for a magazine swap. I'll PM you!

Hughesmb 09/26/2011 #

As soon as I'm able (I'm a newbie currently committed to 5 swaps) I'm going to join up. Considering what I just paid in postage for two other international swaps I mailed today, this will be cheap LOL. (Wow, paper/craft swaps can really cost, but hey, it's good fun and I love a surprise.)

I would love the chance to get craft magazines from far away places even if I can't read them! I have a French decorating/craft magazine that I can't read but love to look at.

Ingelill 10/ 4/2011 #

I'm a newbie too and I'll be glad to join this wonderful swap. I like magazines with different kinds of crafts for home decor (sewing, quilting, applique, embroidery, dollmaking etc) when you can find many nice and various things in one issue as Handmade Living (UK). My favourites are Christmas issues. Used or vintage magazines are welcome too.

RiittaR 10/ 5/2011 #

What a great swap! A Finnish craft magazine anyone??

I'd like to send at a lower cost, so is it okay if it takes more than two weeks to reach overseas from here as it might? Of course I can email my partners that the mags are on their way.

And for me, anything goes, any language, any crafts. Thanks.

anikraft 10/ 6/2011 #

@RiittaR I had to think about this one, of course everyone would like to receive their things as quick as possible but costs can be high for airmail I understand that. I cant see why you cant send things surface mail to save money. Maybe wait til you get your swap partners. If they are within Europe the wait wouldnt be so long, if sending things further away it can be 4-6 weeks for things to arrive. Make sure you obtain a prrof of posting and maybe email a copy to your partners so they can see it has been posted. What is everyone elses opinion on this?

Ingelill 10/ 6/2011 #

Packages from Russia often flies 4-5 weeks too. And I'm ready email a copy of proof posting to my partners, of course. And I'll be glad crafts magazines in any languages not only in English.

chrichri 10/ 7/2011 #

Any language will do for me:) I love sewing, jewelry, diy, paper craft magazines. But anything wil do:)

RadicalRecrafter 10/ 7/2011 #

Both International AND national mail service is SLOW these days! If I'm awaiting something, even from Canada,I won't expect it,or get anxious about it,for about a month. So,if you are my partner,no worries about the wait,I promise!

anikraft 10/14/2011 #

Almost time to start swapping. Yeah!!! Make sure you have either in your profile or as a message on here what youd like to receive, obviously there is no guarantee your swap partners will have the exact things you want but it may make things a bit easier for everyone. I myself would LOVE somerset magazines. Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Workshop, Somerset Apprentice, Somerset Studio. I buy the stampers sampler/take ten/catch up myself. Would love foreign card making mags or altered art/ mixed media ones. Sewing (like Sew Hip) mags that are fairly contemporary.

I am away at a craft workshop this weekend so bear with me, it may not be til Monday/Tuesday that I get to assign partners.

Hughesmb 10/24/2011 #

OUCH! Postage is getting ridiculous!

blackiebirdie 10/28/2011 #

I just wanna say, that postage for this was, of course, absolutely insane.... But at the same time: totally worth it. I got my first australian beading magazine today from my partner and it is AWESOME. It is so so different from what we can get here in Canada and I love that this was an international swap!. Thanks guys I'd definitely do this one again.
