Response: Isn't it funny how something so common in one country is difficult to get hold of in another?! Golden syrup is made from cane sugar, but you could probably substitute if if necessary, although maple syrup would probably taste too strong. I got this from Wikipedia: "King brand syrup, a mixture of corn and invert syrup, is sold in many areas of the USA, often grouped with table syrups like maple syrup. Speciality stores or those with international sections, such as Wholefoods Market, often stock Lyle's golden syrup from the UK." I hope that helps!
