About Me

I'm 22 and a fine arts major with hopes of becoming an art teacher. (But according to Facebook, I will probably one day be living in a box. OH WELL.) I'm a genderqueer panromantic asexual (and a yada, if you know what that is), a book nerd, an Elvis fan; I'm trying to teach myself shorthand, French, and Latin American Spanish. I prefer a vegetarian lifestyle, and I'd rather either make things myself or support fair trade markets or small businesses and artists.

(HERE IS MY ONE MAILING REQUEST: Whatever you send me, however fabulous, please make sure the outside of the package or envelope isn't full of queer symbols or anything. In other words, Please Don't Gay It Up, or it will inevitably lead to a really ugly scene, as I'm currently living with my parents and I'm closeted at home. Thanks

Favorite Music

I love vinyl! But cds are also much appreciated ;) I'm also building a nice little collection of 70s/80s music on cassette tape. Here are some examples (not at all a list of limitations!) of music I like...

NUMBER ONE FAVORITE EVER: Elvis Presley

80S: Toto, Richard Marx, Tears for Fears, Michael Jackson, Rick Astley (ahhaha), Madonna, Blondie, Pat Benatar, Go West, Wham!, George Michael, Cutting Crew, Huey Lewis & the News, Eurythmics, Bananarama, Kim Wilde

BOY BANDS: the Osmonds, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Dreamstreet, O-Town, etc

CHRISTIAN: I'm really picky about the Christian music I'll listen to. I shy away from most of it. What I tend to like is the imaginative/dreamy/poetic (Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash, Mae, Adie)...and a few other select artists: Switchfoot, Superchic[k], and Derek Webb

CLASSIC: Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Shore, Doris Day, Andrews Sisters, Rosemary Clooney..then there's Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr, etc

CLASSICAL: Especially strings..oh my gosh! And once I heard part of this classical musical version of Hansel and Gretel..I'd love a copy of that! And I like Stravinsky a lot.

COUNTRY/BLUEGRASS: Hank Williams Sr., Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Kenny Rogers, Steve Martin

DISNEY: Yes. I particularly adore soundtracks or mixes of music from their cartoon movies. Seriously any movie. I love them all. But I also guilty pleasure warning like a lot of Disney Channel-esque music (Jonas Brothers, Ashley Tisdale, B5, A*Teens)

FOLK: :) Joan Baez is my number one! Also love Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, John Denver...and so on and so on..

INDIE: Andrew Bird, Jukebox the Ghost, Eisley, Regina Spektor, Jonatha Brooke, All Girl Summer Fun Band, Vampire Weekend, Birdmonster, Band of Horses, Cloud Cult, the Dandy Warhols, White Rabbits, Fleet Foxes, Between the Trees, the Bird and the Bee, She and Him/Zooey Deschanel, the Shins, Black Kids, My Morning Jacket, Sufjan Stevens, Jem, They Might Be Giants, etc etc etc etc

JAZZ: New Orleans style...think Miles Davis, Jackie Green, etc.

OLDIES: Dean Martin, Herman's Hermits, the Hardy Boys, Fats Domino, Jackson 5, Jim Croce (etc, etc, etc)...anything British Invasion!

SHOWTUNES: Any and all of them. I've never met a musical I didn't like. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog!

POETRY: ee cummings, Walt Whitman, Edna St. Vincent Millay, WH Auden, Emily Dickinson, Alfred Lord Tennyson, etc

BIBLES: The Poverty and Justice Bible, The Green Bible, The Womens Bible (Elizabeth Cady Stanton's version)

Bollywood and other foreign films, Cheetah Girls: One World, a Bollyrobics dvd, independent films, old horror movies especially Alfred Hitchcock....I can ONLY play Region 1 dvds here. And I do have a VCR still, so that works too, they just take up more room. ;)

International crafts of ALL kinds. I'm looking for either finished projects so I can see what it looks like and how it's put together, or written instructions, preferably with pictures. If you have any background history on the project I'd love that too. :) I'm working on a book--if you send me something, I'll put you on my acknowledgements page!

Saris, sari fabric, sari bags, instructions on how the heck to wear a sari..hhahah

Old camera lenses..supposedly they're easily found at garage sales but I'VE yet to run across any

CDs of birds singing! CDs of people laughing! Hahaha I have weird ideas about music I guess.

Shemagh scarves, also called keffiyehs or Palestinian scarves..like this! http://www.shoppingera.net/shemagh-keffiyeh-shmagh-or-yashmag/

Nail polish, any bright color! All mine is old and icky and needs replaced. :/

Anything, any flavor, from the Art Stuff line by Bath & Body Works, now discontinued :(

CDs by feminist bands/singers, or a mix cd of your feminist faves

A recipe box..secondhand is great! Nicks and scratches are okay--there's a good chance I'll either paint or decoupage it anyway

These mitten-gloves.. http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall08/PATTtatiana.html Hahahha I know it's a real longshot. I'm pretty sure someone would have to love me an awful lot, like times ten billion, to make me these! But a girl can dreammm..

Comment: I enjoyed reading your answers. It's great you do so much humanitarian work in Nicaragua. I have a post card, on the cover is a young girl carrying bananas with a warning label " Exposure to pesticides is dangerous. Keep out of reach of children." And the back reads " For the generous sum of one dollar a day, this child forgoes her health, education and future to supply our supermarkets with flawless bananas. Takes the pleasure out of eating one, doesn't it?" It's commendable that you take a stand for human rights. Thanks for sharing.
Response: Thank you very much. I try not to get too preachy about it, but I definitely fail in that area sometimes ;) That postcard is so horrible but so wonderful in that it makes you stop and actually think about how even your smallest actions can have the biggest effect on people around the world you'll never meet. It reminds me of when we went through these coffee fields to give food to the laborers--backbreaking, never-ending, often dangerous labor, all so we can line the pockets of the people who happen to be on the "right" side of the coffee industry.

I haven't seen that! I took a look, but felt a little overwhelmed, LOL! Thanks for the link :) No queer swaps up at the moment. I've had to cut WAY back due to budget/time restraints, but if you have any ideas and want to host something in the SBGSA, lemme know and I'll make you an officer. :)
