AUGUST 2023: I'm taking a little break from swapping for a while. I hope to be back in a few months. Admins of the groups I'm in, if you need to delete me for inactivity, I understand (but I hope you'll reconsider). All the best to my fellow swappers and have fun creating!
SPOILER ALERT: If you click on my links above, you will see my current and past creations. I couldn't get my Flickr links to work above, but try this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/elvesintheattic/ (or you can try searching for steedjj or ElvesInTheAttic under People). Why do I have two Flickr accounts? I couldn't access one of them and created a new one in frustration. Then, somehow I was able to access the first one again, but not the second one. Then I lost access again. And so it goes...I just keep bouncing back and forth between these two accounts.
RATING & HEARTS: I love to receive your works of art! Please don't feel you need to include anything other than that (I have LOTS of stuff already) for a heart. If you can't bear to send the swap item alone, I would love a hand-written note telling me a little about yourself.
RESWAPPING: Each person has artsy preferences and if my creations don't fit in your collection please feel free to send them on their way to a new home. I won't be offended.
I'm addicted to ATCs. I love the small format and that, for the most part, I can get them finished in one sitting while The Muse whispers in my ear.
My pronouns are she/her and I'm married with adult kids. We have an active lifestyle: hockey (my husband), soccer (me), snowboarding/skiing, kayaking, hiking and travel for the whole family. We recently bought a 1970 vintage camping trailer and LOVE going out in that after years of tent camping; we're getting soft. π I am a big fan of the Seattle Sounders (MLS soccer).
My sister told me a while ago that she and her husband were talking about couples they knew and when they came to my husband and me he said, "They're in the sandbox. They'll always be in the sandbox." That describes me (us) perfectly. I'm very in touch with my inner child.
I'm a hoarder of craft supplies (don't tell my husband I confessed to that) because I 'know' I'll be able to find a way to use them on a project. My family also thinks I'm over the top with recycling. It really pisses me off when they don't put recyclable stuff in the recycle bin and trash in the trashcan. I've been known to snatch something out of there if I think I can use it in my art.
I joke that I have crafting ADD - I'm always trying some new thing and then diving into the next new thing. I used to be a scrapbooker but haven't done much of that in a long time.
My favorite holiday, hands down, is Halloween. I prefer creepy Halloween over cute Halloween.
Nightmare Before Christmas (and pretty much anything else Tim Burton-y)
Pirates of the Carribean series
Bourne trilogy
When Harry Met Sally
Monty Python movies
I know there's more...
ATCs
Collage
Mixed Media
Book Binding
I like quirky (think Tim Burton), but can go more traditional as well. (You too? Check out The Octopode Factory and Dilly Beans Stamps - good stuff.)
Texture, color, mixed media and recycled/repurposed creations catch my eye.
Soccer (Seattle Sounders is my team!)
Outdoors - camping, hiking, beach, mountains
Coffee
Snarky, tongue-in-cheek humor

Fave Holiday: Halloween
Favorite colors: Can't choose. They all need their moment to shine.
Folk Art like this: https://www.etsy.com/shop/indigotwin
Stickers
Overly saccharine cutesy stuff - Hello Kitty, Precious Moments...
I'm not religious so please no bible verses, etc.

Thanks so much again for the awesome RAK you sent me last month! I got a compliment on one of the ATC backgrounds I used today and it reminded me how grateful I was to receive such a nice package. I hope you're doing well :)
Hi Julie, Honestly, I am a self taught artist too. Of course, I have been taking classes for over 22 years. But, just started abstract paintings. I really have spent this past year of pandemic on YouTube. There are so many demos and tutorials available there. I feel like I am back in college!! I have learned everything from the basics of composition to color theory to mixing colors to .... I suggest that you try out some of the ones on there, and see what teachers that you connect with. Then just subscribe to them and make believe that you are back in school. I'll watch a video, then go into my studio room and try out what I learned. I am definitely beginning to like what is happening.
I do have to say that if you are at all serious about this, you should subscribe to YouTube for a monthly fee. All the videos are free, but they interrupt them constantly with ads. Not much of a problem if you are watching a 3 minute music video. But these tutorials can last a few minutes or over an hour. I just couldn't stand the constant interruptions every 3 minutes. It's been so worthwhile!!. I go on with a cup of coffee first thing in the morning and see what's new that day. If it is short, I may watch a few. Longer ones I save and watch them later at night. Good luck and have fun!
Your box of ATCs arrived today. What fun it has been, looking at each of them. Thanks so much for this great RAK!
Hi! I am so happy you have been able to take a Dyan Reaveley class. As you said, she is an amazing teacher... I love her little stories! She is fabulous!
Thank you for the awesome birthday card and the used postage stamps from WIYM group!
The ATC you made is so creepy cool! I love it! Thanks for sharing that with me :)

AHHH!!! I received the gorgeous ATC RAK today! What a beautiful selection of cards you sent - I'm THRILLED with them! They are all beautiful, and I love the Valentine's one you did. Thank you so much for your kindness :) Dina
Hello, Julie! Welcome to the Artisan ATC group! Like you, I am always open to new ideas and techniques. I hope you will teach me some :-) Sadly, for me, I am also a craft hoarder.. although now it's turned into everything hoarder, as I see potential in almost everything! Let me know if you would like to be an officer and host some swaps. I look forward to swapping with you :-)
