"I don't want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or...process anything sold, bought or processed, or repair anything sold, bought or processed, you know, as a career I don't want to do that."

I'm just here for the postcards, actually. Sending postcards is somewhere between a habit and an addiction. I send some almost every day. If you include a return address, chances are you'll get a card back at some point.

The link above is to my mail-obsessed Instagram account, drizzle_mail. I'm also on Postcrossing so maybe we'll cross there some time.

Favorite Crafts

Ok, ok, I know every section is not supposed to be called "Favorite Crafts." I'm just messin' with ya.

I'm a mid-forties guy in Seattle with a family, some chickens, and a penchant for going out and dancing to funk bands. Groovy horns. Bring it on.

Favorite Crafts

I'm not picky about what you send, but if you want to know a bit more about me:

I collect vintage photography, tintypes, daguerrotypes, ephemera with cool typefaces or design, cool old postcards, and old circus sideshow memorabilia.

I don't really collect stamps, but I sure do like it when people put interesting stamps on their mail. I use vintage postage on the majority of cards I send. (I am also interested in swapping uncanceled US postage with you - message me).

I get a kick out of:

Ò€’ vintage photography of any kind. Stamp and send me that faded and scratched carte de visite that you got at the flea market. Or a historical view of your town. Or a faded color photo of your family in the 80s.

Ò€’ odd/campy/offbeat postcards and art. I'm pretty much impossible to offend. (Robert Crumb, Edward Gorey, covers of lurid old paperbacks, etc.)

Ò€’ circus and sideshow images; old magician posters and magic-related art - especially P.T. Barnum-era sideshow stuff and Houdini

Ò€’ offbeat humor and puns

Ò€’ anything related to Grateful Dead (sigh, my wasted youth), hippies, psychedelia, 420.

Ò€’ I'm married to a nature writer, and we hike a lot, garden, raise chickens in the city, and pick wild berries in the summer and mushrooms in the fall. I'm not a big fan of cutsie stuff, but powerful or evocative images of landscape and nature are great. I send a lot of those myself. I also like gnomes. Even cute ones, I guess. But especially edgier fairies, gnomes, and wee folk.

Ò€’ I also like old etchings from the period of classic book illustrations. Recently I have been making some postcards out of reproductions of old etchings from Victorian (and earlier) books. Dark fairy tale scenes, giant squid attacking ships, mysterious flying machines, arctic explorers, etc.

But I digress...

My favorite piece of public art in Seattle is a giant round typewriter eraser. There's also a giant popsicle that's pretty cool. Oh, and a giant milk drop splash.

Eraser

I spend a fair amount of time vintage/antique/thrift shopping in Seattle and online, and my daddy-daughter dates (she's 18) tend towards a slice of veggie pizza and a couple hours at Goodwill. If you think I'm raising her right, we're likely a good match.

I rubber stamp on the back of a lot of my cards. So I guess, if you must know, rubber stamping is technically my favorite craft. I also hand-make a lot of cards by putting images I find various places onto cardstock. If the card you got has no printing on the back, I probably made it from an image I found somewhere. (I also welded together a tallbike and brought it to Burning Man for three years. Does that count as a craft?)

I don't believe a hot dog is a sandwich, and I didn't vote for the reality TV star. Thanks for reading this far.

Johanna51 on Mar 1, 2017:

when I saw yor photo of the giant typewriter eraser I immediately thought: That must be a Claes Oldenburger work. So I googled and yes it is. In 1996 I was in the Guggenheim Museum in New York and saw a retrospective of his work. In my country I have seen his work in The Hague, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Otterlo.
