About Me

I love thrifting, crafting, reading old books and taking road trips. I work part-time in a local paper store (yay for paper crafts & rubber stamping!) and spend the other part of my time reading, renovating our 'new' 1970s apartment and volunteering with Honor Flight. In a past life (only a few months ago), I was working 60+ hours a week for an education company...now I lead a much quieter life. I grew up in a tiny farming town but couldn't wait to move to the city. Now, I can appreciate both places for what they have to offer. I drink far too much coffee, I love a well-made lemon drop martini and I love art deco and mid-century modern styles. Oh, and I am married and we have a kitty named Presley, who misbehaves quite often.

Favorite Crafts

I love paper crafts (card-making, rubber stamping, origami). I really want to get into collage journaling because I think it would be a freeing way to experiment with new ideas. I know it's not a 'craft' but I love antiquing & thrifting and I have a bad habit of buying furniture from craigslist before I figure out where it's going in our home and how it's going to get here--but so far, I haven't regretted a purchase :) Finally, I think there is nothing lovelier than a lined envelope.

Favorite Books

I am a member of a book group that reads only books from the 1850s-1920s. We meet in a historical home in our community and have amazing conversations about how much the world has changed, yet stayed the same over the past centuries. Being a part of this group has given me an appreciation of older books and I find myself gravitating towards material written pre-1960. My favorite book is The Home-maker by Dorothy Canfield Fisher. I also loved Madame Bovary (Gustave Flaubert), The Wind (Dorothy Scarborough) and All But My Life by Gerda Weissman Klein. I love reading vintage housekeeping books and cookbooks, too!

Favorite Music

Ben Folds, James Taylor, Elvis!, Velvet Underground, Ingrid Michaelson, Green Day, Elliot Smith, bad 80s rock, classical...almost anything.

Favorite Television

I enjoy old TV shows. Leave it to Beaver, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Maude and the Andy Griffith Show are some of my favorites. Sometimes I watch them just to look at the sets & wardrobes. As far as 'new TV' goes, I love Law & Order (but I prefer the old episodes with Lenny Briscoe!), CSI: New York, Gilmore Girls 2.5 Men, Friends, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Good Wife...

Favorite Movies

Disclaimer: I haven't seen a movie in the theater since Sex & the City (the first one!). I'm not really a movie-goer...but I love Breakfast at Tiffany's, Love Story, Pillow Talk, The Birds, Vertigo (really, anything Hitchcock!)
