Nov. 2020: I'm back on Swap-Bot after several years off. Not much of anything below has changed!
I'm a writer and editor and only use my cell phone for texting friends. I love reading, drinking tea, listening to music, trying new things, walking by the ocean, and puttering in my vegetable garden or gazing at my houseplants.
I also love travelling -- so far, I've been to England, Scotland, Wales, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, and China (twice!). Not much travelling in the US, though: New England (where I've lived for most of my life), New York, Maryland, Arizona, Florida, California, and Las Vegas. Hubby and I have a tuxedo rescue kitty named Jasper, no kids.
Apparently "rhino" has a political meaning, but that is not why it's my user name -- I just mean the animal. I really like rhinos, but I love badgers!
Oh yeah, and I think puns are awesome.
I mostly read mysteries (cosy or noir), chick lit, nonfiction (travel, nature, science, memoir), and romance. I prefer fiction that has a sense of humor -- not a fan of "women's fiction" or weepies.
Some authors I love are C.S. O'Cinneide, Naomi Novik, Cat Sebastian, Tessa Dare, Dorothy Sayers, Gregory Maguire, Jackson Ford, P.G. Wodehouse, Jasper Fforde, Tim Moore, Ian Rankin, Ellis Peters, Gerald Durrell, and Terry Tempest Williams.
I read a teeny bit of fantasty: Kristin Cashore and Melissa Caruso.
David Harsent and Kim Addonizio are my favorite contemporary poets.
I read a lot and can easily read a book in a day. The public library is my friend.
I'm a writer, not an artist, but I've started making ATCs, art journals, and zines. I love exploring this new form of expression and creativity. It's really fun!
I do yoga and take ballet class over Zoom. I love modern dance, and the Mark Morris Dance Group is my favorite dance company.
I play bass (guitar), a teeny bit of lap dulcimer, and I'm slowly teaching myself to play Renaissance music on the mandolin.
I used to knit a lot, but now I just have a lot of yarn, hah.
I listen to music every single day. Right now, lots of jazz, world music, and top 40, but also stuff like David Bowie, Living Colour, Honey Honey, and Bad Joanie.
I like everything, and love trying new flavors. However, my husband is allergic to peanuts and also has celiac disease, so if you send me any recipes, please make sure they don't call for wheat flour or peanuts.
I prefer my postcards written on and stamped. I like tourist postcards, scenery, animals, famous authors or musicians, all types of art images (especially tilework and Islamic art). Cutsey is not usually my thing, although one of the things I like about Swap-bot is seeing what different people like to send, so if that's what you're longing to send, go for it! No crude, violent, or sexual images, though.
