I found a tutorial that adds tulle strips with the cotton yarn. Would that be OK to add to a pattern for a tawashi? What size should the tawashi be? I've never made one before.

Tawashi seem to be all sizes. I have seen them big and small.

Yes! The tulle is a great addition. And yes, tawashis are all sizes. My favorite tawashi to make is from wool that felts as I use it. So I knit it large and it take shape over a week or so. Happy Knitting!
