My Own Style - Mail Art
Group:Safe Swappin'
Swap Coordinator:Paige1900 (contact)
Swap categories: Mail Art
Number of people in swap:5
Location:International
Type:Type 2: Flat mail
Last day to signup/drop:July 18, 2011
Date items must be sent by:August 18, 2011
Number of swap partners:1
Description:
  • You will mail 1 empty/naked envelope to 1 partner. (You need to add a piece of cardboard for support before sealing).

  • Envelope will be at least 6"x9".

  • Envelope will be decorated "In Your Own Style" back and front. (i.e. Zentangles, Doodles, Cartoons, Shapes, Rainbows...whatever you choose.)

  • These designs do NOT have to make sense OR they can make complete sense. This is entirely designer's interpretation.

  • Remember this will be mailed. The address should be incorporated within your artwork, but MUST be clearly visible and legible.

  • I couldn't find a real nice picture to put up with this swap. The picture that I used is the back side of mail art I drew for a swap I am in...(Yes, I know it is somewhat freaky, but the theme is nightmares and I hate clowns and spiders. The front side is a sea devil snake...LOL). You can google "Mail art" and get more ideas.

  • This is the first swap I have hosted...I may have left out some things. If I have please leave me a comment OR PM me and let me know. If you have any questions, please ask.

So... we leave some sort of "blank" spot for the receiver to put an address - right? This envelope is for them to use sometime in the future - correct? Sorry to be so dense....

@LauraAust --I am assuming this is like the mail art swap I was in before, where you send the envie naked (meaning not in another envie) so the stamps and postmarks and any other mail marks become part of the artwork.

@LizzyJo is correct. And @LauraAust you are NOT dense at all. I had the same questions the first time I did a mailart swap. You will address the envelope that you decorate and send it to your partner. Like sending them a little piece of art mailed. Does this make sense? The other side of the creepy clown one I posted with this swap is addressed with my return address and (as soon as my partner is assigned) I will address it and mail that actual envelope to my partner.

As I was lying awake in bed last night I was thinking about this swap and it dawned on me that this is what you meant (that there is only ONE envelope involved) - LOL. So, should it NOT be opened by the receiver - and JUST a piece of cardboard inserted before mailing (no letter)? I've never done a swap like this but I might just try it!

Yes you are exactly right! The cardboard is just there so as you are drawing on the envelope it will be sturdy and won't get so beat up as it is mailed. and thanks for trying it out. I think they are fun.

But what if I want to put extra goodies inside the envie????

LOL...Then all your awesome ART work would get torn...That is the only draw back this a Mail-Art...I guess you could work that out with your partner though. : P
