@melodia Typewriters are plentiful and available cheap. Maybe it's time to think about getting one!

I would love this, but my old typewriter needs a new tape strip thingy, as it is out of ink! =(

@whimzies My ribbon was dry too. I haven't had a chance to go buy a new one (old typewriter - limited options). I followed these instructions and re-inked mine. http://www.ehow.com/how5518319reink-typewriter-ribbon.html

I did NOT use silicone or WD40.

I DID use a new pad I bought at Staples (or somewhere like it). I used an Altoids tin filled with quarters and other loose change for the weight to smash the ribbon down onto the ink pad. I bought a re-inking bottle for the stamp pad and "juiced" it up often as I dragged the ribbon across the pad.

One issue I am having is that the stamp pad ink must dry out in air. If I let the typewriter sit for a few hours, the exposed part or the ribbon dries out and I have to spool some more out by hand to get to a "wet" spot and then things seem okay again.

It's worth a try, if you wanted to join the swap for next month.

I had to re-ink mine! I just got Office Depot's refill ink. It's a little squeeze bottle. Then I took a paper towel or a q-tip, put ink on it, and it across the ribbon. Worked like a charm :)
