Description:

Most of you know what nesting dolls are right? They are a large doll which opens to reveal a smaller one, which you can also open to get a smaller one, and a smaller one, and a smaller one, etc.

For this swap, you will make at least 5 nesting envelopes for your partner. These 5 envelopes will go into your outer mailing envelope.

You will start with a large handmade envelope, and then inside that envelope you will put a smaller handmade envelope, and in that one you will put a smaller one and so on until you have a teeny tiny envelope. Inside that one you will put a small treasure. This treasure can be a tiny card/note, a pretty stone, a bead to add to a necklace, a pretty picture, a photo of you, tiny art, etc. Have fun with it.

For ideas for what to put in the smallest envelope, please check your partner's profile. Keep in mind you need to make and send at least 5 nesting envelopes to your partner. However, if you want to challenge yourself, feel free to make more nesting envelopes. I was in a similar swap years ago where my partner made me over 10 nesting envelopes! Only seal the envelope that your envelopes are being sent in, so that your partner has the option of using all your nesting envelopes. I know it sounds confusing, but once you get started I know you'll have fun making them nest.

Here's a tip for templates: take one you have or find one online and print it out. Then shrink it down on a copier, print it out, shrink it, print it, etc. until you get the number of envelope templates you want to nest.

Minimum rating: 4.9, with no 1s or 3s in the last 3 months without a good explanation.

One last note: If you sign up, please follow through with the swap. No one likes flakers.

By handmade do you mean we could use calendar pages to make the envies, or do they have to be painted, drawn, collaged, etc.? Sounds like a neat swap!

ArtyBeth3 05/ 5/2011 #

@Arabella yes you could use calendar pages if you wanted.

mousepoo 05/ 6/2011 #

so 6 envelopes total including the one we label and stamp?

Akhenaten 05/ 7/2011 #

Oh, I think I did a swap like this a few years ago. I'm excited!

ArtyBeth3 05/ 8/2011 #

@mousepoo yes, at a minimum you will nest 5 envelopes, and put them into a mailing envelope. If you start and then have so much fun that you want to next more, go for it.

Does the outer mailing envelope need to be handmade too, or can it be storebought?

ArtyBeth3 05/ 9/2011 #

Since we're nesting anyway, we could just make one more larger nesting size to mail the other 5 in. However, I won't make it mandatory - - the outer envelope can be storebought.

this sounds like alot of fun

Any good recipes for the glue to put on the flap to seal the envie???

mousepoo 05/11/2011 #

Here are a few for you: http://www.friendship-by-mail.com/envelope-glue-recipes.html

Personally, I don't worry so much about adding a method to seal them because when I send them, I use clear packing tape to seal 'em. However, I have received them with a pink strip that I can peel off - I believe it's called "Terrifically Tacky Tape." You might be able to find a cheaper peel off adhesive though.

Well, I decided to check out the Terrifically Tacky Tape, and ordered some of it from JoAnn Fabrics online. I got the 1/8" width and now I can't wait to get it!

Oh this is neat! Sorry I missed it :-)
