I love maps! World maps, city maps, street maps, maps of the ocean floor, maps of other planets, treasure maps, political maps, elevation maps, old maps, new maps, real maps, maps of fictional worlds, funny or unusual maps...you get the idea.

For this swap, you will create a map of your own design. Sender’s choice, so you can start working on it now! It must be a map of a world, or portion of a world, from your own imagination, not an existing one (real or fiction). You can, of course, draw inspiration from other maps!

Have some links to get the juices flowing:

Requirements: Your map must include a title, compass rose, legend, and a MINIMUM of four features (such as countries, cities, mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc.) You can include anything else you wish. Add some ruins, famous bridges or roads, secret lairs...Give your map some color too-no plain black and white. Other suggestions (not mandatory, just throwing ideas out there): Make it look aged. Draw waves, sea monsters or ships in the oceans. Be creative! Scientific accuracy isn’t a requirement, just making a beautiful, interesting map your partner would love to display on his/her wall!

Size: At least scrapbook page size (12 x 12 inches/ 30.48 x 30.48 centimeters). Go as big as you want--it’s a map, you can fold it!

Media: Open to any media except digital prints. If doing collage, note that you can’t use pieces of an actual map. That would be cheating. ;) Some ideas: Cut continents out of patterned paper. Use paper punches to indicate cities and mountains and forests of trees. Carve a stamp in the shape of waves to decorate your water.

Labeling/Naming: If you’re daring enough to have your own invented languages, and want to label your map in one, go for it! But please provide translation on the map itself (bilingual maps are cool, right?), or on a separate piece of paper.

So, to recap: 1 map at least scrapbook page size, color, any media except digital. Must include title, compass, legend, at least four features.

Have fun and please don't hesitate to ask questions via pm, email or in the comments. :D
