Mixed up Worlds

Universe: World of Firefly/Serenity. A sci fi world with a cowboy twist. In the future Earth has been abandoned for new planets, some of which are wealthy and developed, while others are left to barely surviving settlers on the outer rim. The Alliance is a central government which tries to control everything. Renegades try to make it by running smuggling ships between planets and other such questionable jobs.

Character: River Tam, a 17 year old girl on the run from a totalitarian government called the Alliance who experimented on her brain resulting in both mental instability and unknown psychic powers.

Universe: Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood - A world where vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, and faeries exist. Vampires have just "come out of the coffin" to the world because of synthetic blood (though most still feed from humans, just not killing them). Vampires have super speed and strength and cannot go out in sunshine; they must also "sleep" or go "dead" during the day, leaving them powerless. There's a lot of politics between the head vampires. The character I like the best is Eric, a self-centered, gorgeous, really old vampire. Google him, I suppose. I do like the True Blood version (the HBO tv show), especially since the last few books from C. Harris have kinda sucked.

Character: Sookie Stackhouse. She is the main character and is always putting her life in danger for a vampire or werewolf or some other creature. She is a telepathic waitress, but she cannot "read" vampires, which is why she is drawn to them, along with her status as "outsider". She is gorgeous and under-estimated. Her first love - Bill the vampire - ended up betraying her (sent on an errand from the Queen of Louisiana) and she ends up in love with Eric. I'm totally an Eric fan, even though he continues to be a bit selfish and puts her in harm's way at times. Phew!

Universe: Lusternia, from the text game of the same name. A post apocalyptic fantasy world where millenia of wars with Lovecraft-esque cosmic horrors, as well as each other, has left the various races of mortalkind huddled in the last habitable spot on the planet. The various factions (4 cities and 2 nature communes) still refuse to work together except in the direst of circumstances, like the release of a Soulless god, so little progress is made in restoring the world. As well as the prime material plane, there are also ethereal, elemental, cosmic, and astral planes, as well as the dangerous aetherspace between them.

Character: Inox Alterrel, a 180 year old changeling witch from the last pure forest not tainted by the Soulless. Over all the years of war and outliving loved ones, she went insane as a way to cope, and now has a grand time with her delusions. Often turns to drink when those delusions are threatened. Spends her days gardening, sewing, and playing practical jokes on guildmates.
