Description:

This swap is for children who need to learn their letters or are practicing their writing skills.

My son is 4 and needs to get better at writing his letters this year, so we are writing letters to loved ones. I make the letters in dot form and he traces them. However, some older children may be able to write well themselves, but still need practice. This way, your child can practice his or her letters AND recieve mail.

If the child can write on his or her own, help him or her compose a short letter to your partner's child. If not... Adults: take some paper appropriate for your child and make a letter to the other child in dotted letters (the kind that you see that your child would trace). It should say something like

"Dear XYZ, My name is ABC. I like Barbies and Monster trucks. My favorite Toy is MNO. I am glad to meet you. Love ABC."

It doesn't have to be exactly that, but something similar depending on your child's abilities. You will probably need to help your child with this.

Let your child decorate it or even color a second picture (to practice coloring inside the lines or learning their colors or learning to cut out a shape) to enclose. Also, send one sheet of stickers and a blank picture for the receiver to color. These can be found and printed online and don't have to come from a coloring book.

I can angel on this swap if necessary as my son needs to practice his letters, but PLEASE don't flake on a child.

Recap: One letter depending on your child's ability that is an introduction and allows him or her to practice letters.
Decorating the letter would be fun but is not necessary. An extra page colored by your child is optional, but would be fun. Include a blank coloring page for the receiver and a sheet of stickers.

Maybe this will be the start of some cute little penfriends!

Comment your child's name and age in the comments section so your partner knows who his or her child is writing to.

This should only cost one stamp.

What a great idea :) I don't have a child, though!

I think this is going to be a great idea! My son is 4, going to be 5 next month, and he can definitely use help with his writing. Teddy and I look forward to doing this.

My son's name is Connor and he just turned 6. There is info about him in my profile if you're curious. He is really looking for someone to have a continuous penpal "relationship" with! :D

For those with younger kids who don't want to do the dotted lines themselves, there's a website that you can put whatever you want into it to create the practice sheets. It's here: http://www.handwritingforkids.com/handwrite/manuscript/javascripts/_my8linestext.htm

I know I'll be doing it for Teddy! :)
