Description:

You will use fabric scraps to make the front of the fabric postcards. At least 3 different pieces of fabric.

Standard size is 4x6 inches. The back needs to be a light colored fabric like muslin or heavy card stock so that you can easily see the address and information. There needs to be a middle layer. You can use batting, however you are going to need to make the back stiff so that it will go through the mail with out getting torn up. Some people put cardboard in the middle. I like to use Pellon Peltex. It is stiff and makes a very nice stabilizer. You can find this at most fabric stores. I have even bought it at Wal-Mart. Please write your partner a cheerful message. Make sure that you write the word postcard on the back. I use a permanent black pen to write on the back of the ones I send.

You can put them in an envelope if you want to. I recommend sending them in envelopes. Sometimes the machines at the post office leave black ink on them.

Send something you would like to receive. You must have a rating of 4.8 or better to participate. If you are a newbie please have a completed profile for me to read. I will then decide if you can participate. No flakers please. Open to international participants.

You can find instructions on my website on how to make these. Go to the link above or to http://postypals.blogspot.com

FabricMom...I have tried to leave you a message directly but it says I have to verify my email address (but I already have lol) So I will attempt to leave you one here and hope you get it. I AM new to swap-bot, actually have never heard of it before today! I am really really wanting to try out your swap though. I have looked at the samples on your blog and they look amazing...and fun! In fairness to you, I will tell you up front that I have never made one of these before. If nothing else, can you allow me to make one for you, as I see you host and participate in a lot of swaps and I want to get my foot in the door, and be able to participate in a swap so I can have a rating of my own!
Thanks for your time...

Dear Fabric Mom I too like turtleLove have only heard about swap-bot today. I have only participated in one swap through the magazine Cloth Paper Scissors. I don't have a rating required by the site, so I don't know how a newbie can get involved. I have no idea what a flaker is, so I don't know all the code language yet either. Just one more thing, when you ask for 3 different fabrics on the front, does that mean three different postcards, or one postcard with three different fabrics on it.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Sandi

Sent you both a message.

On behalf of the post office: please send them inside envelopes. :) (Stray threads of fabric can do all sorts of weird things to the expensive machinery.) My post office refuses to take naked fabric postcards.

Selvages are good too.

I always send my handmade postcards - even fabric ones - naked. I do pay extra postage and have them hand cancelled.

Just in case anybody in this swap was also signed up for the 1.5 in Postage Stamp Quilt Squares R-4 Swap, it was just cancelled without explanation by the swap coordinator. If you still want to participate, @siouxx05 is hosting a new swap in its place called 1.5 Inch Fabric Squares Quick Turnaround.
