Can the books be a well-loved copy from our collection or does it need to be new?

KerrWriter 09/23/2007 #

Do the books need to be in a specific language? It might be cool to get a French book but I couldn't read it...

sskatherine 09/23/2007 #

The books can be used or new. I personally prefer used books. There will be a limit of $10 if you are purchasing a book. Regarding books in other languages, this is an int'l swap and if you would prefer a book in a language other than English I can take that into consideration when matching partners up.

enakitty 09/23/2007 #

i'm curious to know how you match partners....is there a way to do it manually, and not have swapbot match people up? thanks :)

sskatherine 09/23/2007 #

Oh, I'm sorry! I was unaware that swap-bot does the partner matching. (I obviously need to read the details). It will be unneccesary to message me with your book preferences. I apologize for any confusion!

As I'm not living in an English-speaking country, would it be OK if I'd be sending not "a book I love" but "a book I love most of these books that are in English and that I can find in shops right now"?

And who would send away a most loved book from her own collection, I'd like to know? Only if there are several copies of them.

sskatherine 09/25/2007 #

Of course you may! I personally have trouble parting from my own much-loved books, but I do know people who feel that once they've read a book it should be passed on to someone else. I think it is personal preference really.

Caam 09/26/2007 #

I am really looking forward to this one! For my partner...My apologies, but I only speak and read english. Please feel free to browse your stash or the local used book store for the book! No need to send a new book.

Caam 09/26/2007 #

I forgot...if anyone has a language preference, I live in the Washington D.C. community so I can probably find most anything in and language...

Do I understand it correctly that we are about to send a book that WE love, not necessarily what our partner would love?

sskatherine 10/ 1/2007 #

Well, hopefully you will consider both when you choose your book. The point is to send a book that you love that you also think your partner will enjoy.

This little board has been very silent. How is everybody doing?

pahasiga 10/ 9/2007 #

I have the bookmark ready (supposing it IS a bookmark, never done that before) and hunting for the book I want to send. I suppose I'll be combing bookshops up to the send-by date if I don't find it earlier. :(

sskatherine 10/ 9/2007 #

I've had good luck finding books for good prices on amazon.com

pahasiga 10/10/2007 #

In fact I did look around in amazon.com and other sites, but they ask for a credit card, so I'd need to tell my husband I'm swapping here in order to use his credit card... I'm not brave enough for that at the moment, he rolled his eyes already when I was swapping locally. :D

Or maybe I should ask that he would include that book in his next batch from amazon (he knows I'm looking for a certain book to present)... only he has almost ceased to buy books (both from internet and shops) because we simply don't have more room in our flat for them (but my swap partner shouldn't worry about it, I'll manage this one book somehow :D).

sskatherine 10/10/2007 #

Whatever works best for you :) Please do send me a message if I can help out in any way though.

pahasiga 10/11/2007 #

Amazing... It just happened that yesterday when walking home I noticed a car with ads for a well-known local bookshop chain (shops of which I had been combing) and it invited to use their online shop.. and my book was there! :) And some minutes ago I was called and told that the book is waiting for me in the shop I chose for it.. so if I'm lucky (in writing notes and such), I may be posting it tomorrow! :)

sskatherine 10/11/2007 #

That's fantastic!

fleasha 10/15/2007 #

my package went out today. :) sooo happy to send this one book. I too had to go to a few locations, but I finally found it. (I do half-price books before anything else and I am usually lucky) However, It does not have the cover that I wanted, but its still the book and I'm sure my partner will like it. ;-)

sskatherine 10/25/2007 #

I mailed my package on Tuesday!

sskatherine 10/31/2007 #

Hello All! There are still a few people who haven't sent. I've sent out messages. If I don't hear back from the non-senders I'll send replacement packages.

Thanks!

Katie

I'm worried about my package. I posted it soooooo long time ago (more than 2 weeks), I hope it hasn't got lost. But I also have no feedback from other swaps to USA/Canada I sent out at the same day although packages to Europe and Australia (same batch) have arrived safely.

sskatherine 11/ 3/2007 #

Perhaps you should contact the person you were sending to? Sometimes someone will receive and then forget to leave a comment.

sskatherine 11/ 5/2007 #

We have had 2 flakes in this swap. I will be sending out packages to their partners. Otherwise this swap has gone pretty smoothly. I hope everyone has enjoyed themselves! Please contact me if you have any questions/concerns :)
