Description:

I have struggled with weight my entire life and I am at a place I am not thrilled about. Ive come to realize that diets do not work..they never will. But discovering why you got to the place you are now does. The weight is a symptom, and a layer of protection. I thought about doing a journal swap on here of writing down calories, tips, daily exercise, for big girls. But I think I need to go much deeper that this. So to all you big girls out there...this is for you. You will buy a journal (no smaller than 5x7. I have listed the following journal prompts for you to use. I hope everyone finds this somewhat healing.

Anyone can join with a well filled out profile. Please make sure to not just answer the prompts but make it a beautiful safe haven for your partner to come too in her time of need so she can read your journal and know they are not alone. Add quotes, stories, draw, etc.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

And remember ladies, big or small, you deserve nothing less than the best!

Use the following journal prompts

1) If being heavy is a symptom of something else that went wrong in your life, what do you think it may have been? What do you think made you start putting on the pounds? Talk about the journey of weight gain.

2) How has weight affected your relationships with a significant other?

3) Have you ever actually accepted yourself at any point in life? And if so, what happened that set you back?

4) What attempts have you made to lose weight? Best ones? Worse ones?

5) Did anyone from childhood belittle you?

6) First memory ever?

7) Do you have any health issues because of the weight?

8) Does your family support you?

9) Who makes your weight loss journey difficult? Anyone in your life that you feel enjoys seeing you fail? And if so, who?

10) Write a letter to your younger self. Try to pick an age right before life got really hard for you as a kid. Knowing what you know now about what that child will go through, write them a letter and tell them how much you love them and what you want them to know to help them get through it.

11) Got pictures? Show us pictures of you as a child and now? What do you think about the pictures? Are you loving or hateful about what you see?

12) Write down 20 positive affirmations about your life and who you are!

13) Write a letter to your future you, promising to love yourself for whatever is to come.

14) Close with any entry you like. But I would like you to put something in there about if you learned a lot about yourself through this journal. Also state any closing thoughts you have.

Very good swap! I'm writing a research paper now on being overweight and have found lots of research to help people, such as myself and to encourge them. Very good swap. I totally commend you. :)

whispernova 11/13/2010 #

Oh I am so happy that you guys are joining! Its very comforting to know how many people out there deal with the same thing.

holymolar 11/13/2010 #

What a wonderful idea! I recently started the journey to loose weight and this couldn't come at a better time! Looking forward this swap so much.

This could be a very profound experience and somewhat scary and emotional but I am in!

whispernova 11/14/2010 #

That is awesome, Spread the word about it if you can. Net, this will indeed prove to be a very profound experience. I am a bit scared too, but eager to learn about myself!

junieandj 11/15/2010 #

Is there a set number of prompts to complete?? I know the 14 but wanted to know if one was expected for every day of the swap.

Also, do we need to write the foods and calories in the journal?

whispernova 11/16/2010 #

No need to write food and calories. And you are welcome to add more prompts in addition to the ones I listed:)

washingtonmaverick 11/18/2010 #

What a great idea for a swap!

FiWebster 11/30/2010 #

Terrific idea for a swap: it reminds me of the prompts in Susie Orbach's book Fat is a Feminist Issue II!

chelle523 12/ 6/2010 #

This is amazing! Wish I could give you a hug for this. I'm in exactly the same place right now and I think this is really going to help. :)

Dragonfly2 12/ 6/2010 #

I am watching for now, I really need this well. I think this is a perfect swap.

MissAnneThropy 12/ 8/2010 #

What about people's whose weight problem is caused by another illness? I also had a question about your promt #3. 3) Have you ever actually accepted yourself at any point in life? And if so, what happened that set you back?

Shouldn't you mean, what made you stop accepting yourself?

whispernova 12/ 9/2010 #

Miss- Well the way I said it and the way you said it still has the same meaning...unless I am reading it wrong. As far as being over weight for an illness than this swap probably isnt for you. This is mostly for girls who eat to fullfill an emotional need. You are welcome to join though!

MissAnneThropy 12/22/2010 #

Gotcha, I joined this swap, I think self esteem especially in the realm of being overweight is something I've had a problem with all my life. I think this is a great swap! I have started planning out my journal already! :-)

whispernova 12/22/2010 #

YAY!!! I am so excited!

monkeypenguinfarm 12/30/2010 #

Sunlion 01/10/2011 #

pshew! this is a LOT of work. I feel like there isn't enough time to get it all done

whispernova 01/15/2011 #

Yay twisted....very excited! I am going to extend the send by date. Seems a lot of you are overwhelmed with how close the timeline is getting...including myself.

meljayprice 02/ 5/2011 #

@whispernova I missed this will you be doing it again anytime soon?

whispernova 02/ 9/2011 #

@ melijayprice.... I do not plan on it. But....why don't you create another one. There might be more people out there that didn't get. Chance to sign up for this one that would want too. I would just called it healing journal for big girls #2.

Sunlion 02/17/2011 #

My bad! I mailed it Saturday on the way to work, I just spaced on coming back here to log that it got mailed. Sorry for any confusion!
