Description:

Here is a creative idea for a quilt made from a variety of 12 ½” quilt blocks decorated with YOYO’s. This is the first in a series of at least 12 months of swaps. Each month you will send your partner 1 quilt block. Try to think of a different theme to make for each month. The idea is to end up with all different YOYO Variety Quilt Blocks.

Start with a 12 ½” (100% cotton) fabric base that you’ve added (sewn on top of) YOYO’s to in whatever theme or design you choose. The base can be a part of the picture, or a bright color to match your theme, it can be pastel, or even regular muslin if you like. Be sure to allow a ¼” seam allowance around the outside of your base so that the blocks can eventually be joined. Measure and cut your base fabric accurately.

You might want to layer the YOYO’s, any size shape or color, sender’s choice. Maybe you want to put the gathered side up, or flat side up or both on your quilt block. You may also use any YOYO making tools you have. These YOYO’s do NOT have to be round they can be flower shaped, heart shaped or any creative shape you can come up with. As always, put some thought into your blocks, be creative and send what you would like to receive.

Just to inspire you, here are some ideas:

--appliqué a basket to your base fabric and put YOYO flowers in the basket, use leaf shaped buttons as your embellishment

--create an animal or person made from YOYO’s on your base fabric, add button eyes, or embroider the face

--gather a bunch of YOYO flowers and tie them off with a ribbon bow and attach it to your base fabric

--or just fill up the base fabric (except the ¼” seam allowance around the outside of the block) with a YOYO’s collage and embellished it with unusual buttons

Embellishments could be buttons, ribbons, rick rack, lace, trim, embroidery work, or appliqués, but whatever embellishments you use they must be washable.

Summary: 1 partner 1 YOYO Variety Quilt block Each block should be a 12 ½” 100% cotton base with 100% cotton YOYO’s
Using at least 5 YOYO’s & at least 1 washable embellishments on each block

You might want to accumulate these blocks for one quilt, or use them separately as mini art quilts. Be inspired to make a YOYO Variety block tote bag!

Newbies welcome with a filled out profile. I reserve the right to accept swappers.

I will angel this swap but will publicize if you flake and I reserve the right to eliminate partners.
