Date items must be sent by:October 22, 2010
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

I can not angel this swap as it it is listed, but if there should be a flaker, then I would angel with another paper craft

8/27 you can work with a journal smaller than a composition book. but I should still be good size to have nice detailed pages, a spiral bound book will work also, that is what Im now working with.

9/29 Today is the last day to sign up or drop. I will be checking profiles, so far we have a fantastic group. Please remember the shipping on this will be 1rst class or priority. I hope everyone had fun!

I'm leary about the shipping cost of this, so it is USA only, any officer can copy this swap and set it up based on thier own region.

USA: you can not send this media mail, nobody wants to wait around. send it first class or flat rate priority. Hopefully we can get by with 1st class. you may choose to add delivery confirmation.

this swap is for those of us who are new to making the journals, but anyone can join. Because even if this is your first time, it should be your best work.

  1. minimum pages 40!

  2. front must be decorated, back is optional.

  3. please on the first page have a your mini bio: user name, name, age. any non personal info you want to share like home town, your schools attended, favorite things in life ect ect......

  4. pages should be filled

  5. be creative, embellish, use colorful pens, add interestin info, make this the book you would want to recieve,

Fill your journal with quotes, recipies clipped from magizines, drawings, doodles, lists of reccomended stuff such as books, movies, internet sites. maps, bussiness cards, appointment cards of what you did and where you went like the dentist. photos of your area, collage a page. list off your cd collaction.

you could even add tuck ins, like an atc or a book mark or anything flat that is an extra for your partner

so your book will be a mix of hand written, art, collage and clippings. you may have chunky pages depending on how you choose to embellish your pages, but I would'nt do every page chunky.

this is not a project to do in one night, start working now, this book is about you and is not profile based.

my thinking is when making the sign up and send dates you can begin work now and can stop your work if you just don't like this swap. but once the sign up date comes you only have 3 weeks to send. this is why to begin work now.

RATING rate a 5 with a heart if the sender went above and beyond your expections.

rate a 5 if the swap met requirments

rate a 3 if swap quality was below requirements, not enough pages, sparce entries, completely a mess like a 3rd grader sitting in the dark put it together. please explain your 3, dont just leave it.

Journals to use: any store bought journal or composition book that your kids use for school. for that book you can glue some of the pages together to make them stronger since they have 100 pages in them. you cound even turn some pages into pockets!

but your journal should be at least compostion sized, because you want to get stuff on the pages! The max you should spend on a blank journal should be about $1.50

any questions, post them to the page and pm them to me. I will go through profiles and ban as i see fit at time swap is over. meaning if you havnt been logging on or just got a bad rating

if you have page ideas that you want to share please post them below

someone just Pmd me about doing this, Ive wanted to but have been so apprehensive, but Im just going to throw caution to the beaver and do it!

Creativemind 08/25/2010 #

I did a private journal swap but there were specific entries we had to do, one each day, anywho, it was fun! I recently started a junk journal with only a few pages done, so I will use that for this swap. BTW, don't know about Walmarts in other areas, but I just bought two more composition notebooks today, added to the 8 I already have for 25 cents a piece.

Candyn29 08/26/2010 #

yes they are on sale right now, Im working with one I already have. But for those that cant get to walmart try the dollar store.

Im gluing 2 pages together to make them sturdier, and am working on entries. Im doing crossword puzzles crytograms to get quotes.

I may extend the sihn up and send day by 1 week.

violin21 08/27/2010 #

This sounds fun what a shame I live in France .... Maybe an international one .....!!!!

Candyn29 08/27/2010 #

thank you @darlene1952 for motivating me to start this

@violin21 something maybe, but on a smaller scale because of postage prices. I will look into it after this swap is finished

journal sizes Just so you know a regular journal will also work, I just dont want a book used that is too small to make interesting pages, some of you might not like the composition size, thats ok, a bit smaller is fine, I myself am not likeing the compostion size either.

Miles 08/28/2010 #

Yes I would be interested in a swap if it was inernational as I am in England I am just getting in to making journals. x

Candyn29 08/28/2010 #

yes, I think I will host international version at end of october but a smaller book

mizvicky 09/ 1/2010 #

OMG I can not believe I joined this one... I have NEVER done one,and have been really nervous about them as it seems there are quiet a bitt of flaking for these things...sigh..

OK here goes...

mizvicky 09/ 1/2010 #

ok so when you say Composition NoteBook,is this the black and white one,..No spial bound,,,right??

Candyn29 09/ 1/2010 #

I think spiral bound is fine, but Im having to transfer my work into a better quality spiral book that is the kind used for scrapbooks, the pages are thicker and the pages wont tear out or be hard to turn. I know there are some nice quality spiral journals but can be a bit more exspncive.

In fact I was looking at rite aid at journals and they started at $5. so that's not in my price range because I've decided to be poor!

and thats why I titled this first journal swap, because I too am a novice.

mizvicky 09/ 1/2010 #

Hmmmmmm I don't think I have seen those Candy... For my first one though I am doing the composition book.. So far,so good, but we will see..

I want this to be a great swap for my partner, and I really am trying to do you a good job-- I am excited about this--

boriquaz 09/ 2/2010 #

when you say 40 pages you mean front and back correct i just want to make sure

mizvicky 09/ 2/2010 #

I am on the 4th page and had to go to youtube, com to get some ideas and it is LOADED with ideas-- I had no idea you could use some of the things in a journal!!!

NEXT time I do one of these,ti WILL be a book without lined pages, and THICKER paper.. I am finding I am having to glue 2 pages to the one I just painted,to keep it sturdy..Yeah...Got a little carried away..lol..

Boy this is FUN!!!!

Candyn29 09/ 3/2010 #

it can be front and back, or one sided either way 40 pages. I am now working with thicker sturdy pages, but have painted them all different colors front and back

HollyBear 09/ 3/2010 #

Oh! I wanna join this but I am so unsure about it, never done a project this big before. May seem small to some but I'm a new crafter. I've never done journaling really. I think I'm gonna watch for now.

boriquaz 09/ 3/2010 #

im using a comp book next time def need sturdier book

mizvicky 09/ 4/2010 #

here

so freakin easy...try it

Candyn29 09/ 6/2010 #

for those of you who are afraid to join because you feel it's a big task, it is my first time also, It's not so much a journal on your daily life, I have put a few of my daily thoughts in tho. I also had a collection of quotes Ive been clipping and now Im happy to be able to use them, and I have collaged one page so far.

mizvicky 09/10/2010 #

I have finger painted in mine, added a page of recipes, done some doodling and decoupage.. REALLY fun and easy swap--- Just please do not flake.. People put a lot of time and effort into this..

Candy- not stepping over the line here,I hope.. Just wanted to back you up..lol

mizvicky 09/10/2010 #

already on my 35th page but I am gonna keep going simply because it is so addicting...

Candyn29 09/10/2010 #

Im ending up adding pages by making a lot of foldout interactive pages and a few pockets,

isabellasnow 09/12/2010 #

Hi all...I would love to join BUT am really finding myself lost without more specific instructions about what each page should be about. For those of you who have already begun your journals, what types of entries are you making? I just finished the ABC123 Journal (50 pages) and thought it turned out great, but I didn't want to do the same thing again. I'd love to have some specific ideas. Thanks in advance.

LadyStephanie 09/13/2010 #

@isabellasnow I totally understand. It is much easier to do a themed journal IMO - so pick a theme! Things like:

  • The four seasons - events, recipes, your favorite aparel for each time of the year, poetry to go with each season
  • My Garden - your must haves, garden layout/map, crop successes, again with the recipes, who helps you, do you share, where do you shop for supplies, advice for beginners, what goes in your compost pile
  • Movies - your fave types, actors/actresses, do you read the book too, your unfavorites that you refuse to watch
  • Dream Home - interior decorating ideas for each room (collage), the colors you would surround yourself with, the materials, say where and why, who would live with you
  • Hostess with the Mostest - if you fancy yourself as a fairly good cook, share recipes and the occasions that go with them, table setting ideas, centerpieces, how to pack for a picnic, how to plan a dinner party
  • Journal your profile. Take all the things on your profile and journal about that.

Does any of that help? Some of the pages can be lists, logos of your fave band/products, you could promo your favorite craft tool/brand and say why it's so great, use confetti to make a piece of "dot art" - because it sounds like anything goes.

Stamps help. Take one of your favorite stand-bys and open a page and stamp it in the middle, open to another page and stamp the corners, open another page and make a border. Blank pages are so hard to write on. Get the crayons out and give the pages some color. @creativemind is doing a junk journal - and I probably will too. Here is the link for a youtube tute on how to make a junk journal. This is not required for this swap, but may help you get going in the right direction. Good luck!

Candyn29 09/13/2010 #

I have collaged pages, I have a lot of fold out pages to get my book to 40 pages. I have 2 pages of quotes I've been collecting, I have personal entries as well as fun collaged pages. I have a page thats fold up with cards and reciepts I found in my purse. Overall the book shows stuff I love.

I also did a list of reccomendations for music and movies, a favorites list. and have more to go

mizvicky 09/15/2010 #

Almost done with mine.. Few more pages to go,and decorate the front and back..

Today I got all my fall items in from Oriental Trading,so this will be easy to finish.. Hope my partner likes "woodland" cute little dear and owls..I LOVE them to pieces...

Candyn29 09/15/2010 #

now you make me so sad :( My budget was spent on fixing my car! But I just got my new paper wishes catalog in the mail, so time to save my money, You get free shipping with $75!!!

mizvicky 09/16/2010 #

OMG I LOVES the PW catalog.. The vintage recipe cook book layout was AWEssssome... I so want it..lol

occasiongb6557 09/16/2010 #

okay all, this is my first time becoming active with this group and if this is a "free for all, mixed media of stuff" to entertain my partner without prompts, restrictions or rules then I am signing up and if not let me know ASAP so I can move out.

Everyone sounds so excited about this project I want to create one too,....

Candyn29 09/17/2010 #

this book is a mixed! mine is a mix of written, collage, drawing.

mizvicky 09/21/2010 #

so is mine.. recipes, puzzles, a quote or 2, random stuff ... A few drawings,, i am finished with mine...woo hoo

Candyn29 09/22/2010 #

Mine is a good mix, I have had to add fold out pages, But I have 2 more pages to do and I'm hoping my 2 boys will help with thier artwork because I just think that would be a neat addition.

Starwatcher 09/26/2010 #

I had read about something like this a few years ago. Then it was called a "glue book." Basically you cut out interesting things out of magazines and add it to a page - maybe comment on it, maybe not. Color around it or not. I started one quite some time ago and add a page now and then - adding old mag clippings that I used to stick in a box, now they are in this glue book so i see them more often. I would not want to give it up after working on it though so I'll have to think about it for a while. I'm watching ....

Candyn29 09/26/2010 #

that's a great way to showcase your clippings and this is certainly along the lines of that but I hope people will journal alittle in it also.

Creativemind 09/29/2010 #

Sorry ladies, but I'm gonna have to sit this one out. Maybe next time, have fun!

mizvicky 09/29/2010 #

I did journal in mine a bit..

kd5145 10/ 4/2010 #

My last couple of pages are drying, then I can decorate the cover and it will be on its way to it's destination. This was fun. I will be sorry to see my journal go, but it was a great experience.
