Swap Coordinator:Betsi (contact)
Swap categories: Themed  Postcards
Number of people in swap:4
Location:International
Type:Type 2: Flat mail
Last day to signup/drop:April 27, 2010
Date items must be sent by:May 7, 2010
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

A simple postcard swap, one partner each. Postcard must feature a famous geek of some sort. Geeks pictured could include scientists, inventors, engineers, computer programmers, etc - could be historical (like Thomas Edison), current (like Stephan Hawking), or even fictional (like Scotty from ST:TOS or Prof. Farnsworth from Futurama). Please no characters from geeky fiction that aren't geeky themselves (ie Amy Wong from Futurama).

Postcard should be sent "naked" unless your partner requests one sent in an envelope. No handmade cards please, but if there is interest maybe we can do a swap for handmade ones.

This swap is not profile-specific, but it's always a good idea to check a profile and try to send what your partner will love, if you have more than one card fitting the theme.

Any questions, just ask; this is my first group swap and I really want things to go smoothly. :) Please note I'm more likely to respond quickly when contact via private message than comments below, but I will try to check often.

So... the majority of the cast of Big Bang Theory counts? :o)

Betsi 04/13/2010 #

It's not one of my fandoms, but a quick Google would certainly seem to indicate so. :)

(...why am I not watching this show??)

Okay, so I'm sorting through my entire pc stash and I don't have one that works for this swap! Can you believe that? I'll try to get in on this one @Betsi, hopefully I'll stumble upon some new hotness before the sign up date ...

Amazon usually have reasonable Marketplace prices on postcard books, I bet you could find something that fits the bill that way. :)

I'd love it if there was a handmade option for this. It would be great to create an Ada Lovelace or Grace Hopper card!

Wouldn't it be easier to do a nice handmade card? Print a pic of a geek? Sounds like a geeky activity too...

I'm not really in a position to host another swap right now, but if any other officers want to host a handmade version of this, they are welcome to. Or if you're not an officer, maybe just host it outside of the group.

If no one else hosts it in the next month or so I will try to get one up, but I'm at the limit of what I can handle right now between swap bot and real life commitments.

Hoho...I've got one! (smiles smugly) :0)

I like the swap as @Betsi has posted it, because it's a bit challenging to find the right card, plus some people prefer store-bought postcards.

I'll happily host a handmade version for the group:

@Betsi seriously, you should watch The Big Bang Theory. I literally LOL every week. :)

wunderland 04/21/2010 #

I tried to get into BBT, since so many people have told me "that show reminds me of you Ami". But I just can't get into it, I haven't enjoyed a sitcom since the 90s ... I'm more of a Chuck kinda girl.

loricritt 04/27/2010 #

Just the theme song alone is enough to watch The Big Bang Theory!

I did a direct swap on Postcrossing for some geek postcards so I'd have one to use for this swap, but it was coming from the UK and the mail is still a little volcanically delayed and my cards haven't arrived in time to join this swap ... lame.
