Description:

Embroidery was one of the first sewing projects little ones were taught. For this project each will make two 7x7 (allowing for seam allowance) pieces of redwork embroidery for their partner. Redwork is a whole picture done in nothing but red. You may choose a picture from a book or simply make up your own. Somehow, somewhere on your block include your swapping name, like I would put knitmom7 for me.Sender's choice on the color red, although it usually was a bright red.

I love the redwork style of embroidery! But I never seem to have red thread... mine are blue and black and rainbow....

Know what you mean! Invest. Make sure you use just 2 strands of floss though!

Knitmom7, this is a lovely swap. Watching for now. And just making sure that THIS is what a finished square looks like...

And then, what do you do with it? Sorry for my questions, but my MIL is the embroiderer in the family. I have hoops and want to try it. Are these designs too ambitions?

You can trace a design or two from a coloring book or from your wallpaper or the outline of a girl from a magazine or from a child's story book or sketch your favorite cup. Use a pencil for all these. Don't be too technical. See the vase? Take the flowers out and use the ones at the base of the vase! The idea is to get started on something new. You'll get more technical as you go, but right now learn something new! The partridge in a tree, see second from left, would be as hard as you wish to go right now. 2 strands! Start now! Remember that we have all different levels here too!

I love redwork!!! Just a couple of questions - what kind of fabric is usually used - aida cloth, cotton and is there a specific red colour that is supposed to be used?? Thanks! :)

It's a muslin. Unbleached. The color is usually 667, I think. Or the red nearest that number. If you can't get it, try another red.
