Description:

My dining table is boring and blah. For placemats it has the homogenized crap you find in all of the big box stores and for napkins it has the ever-popular paper towels. While they do meet my needs, they’re not very exciting. So I decided that we, being the creatively endowed people that we are, are capable of making each other’s tables significantly more fun to eat at. Thus, the creation of this swappy goodness.

For this swap, you will be making two placemats and two napkins for one partner. The design, technique used, and colors/patterns chosen are up to the sender. The only requirement is that you not use paper—your creations must be made from some sort of textile (including any type of fabric, felt, yarn, ribbon, etc).

This swap is limited to swappers in the US to help control shipping costs. It is additionally open only to swappers who have previously completed a minimum of five swaps, have a completed profile, and have not had any recent one or three ratings. I cannot angel, so if you anticipate being unable to follow through, don’t sign up.

To get you started and inspired, I have compiled a list of links to tutorials and inspirational photographs. Go now and get crafty! Godspeed!

I love the idea but don't think I could complete the project in one week.

@pickleme You have 2 weeks because it is sender's choice. If you change your mind, we'd love to have you jump on in.

Can you buy the placemat and napkins then decorate them or does it need to be completely homemade?

katier 03/ 1/2010 #

Buying pre-made placemats and napkins to use as an alterable base is acceptable.

This was so much fun. I have never made placemats before or napkins, so this was a fun puzzle to solve. I hope my partner likes her mats. I posted my finish product on my blog. I just love em and they really didnt take much time. So fun. Let's do this one again sometime.
