Description:

i love maps. i want to do a swap to share maps of my world with others and recieve maps of what your world is like to you. make a map of YOUR world. this can be done anyway you like. an example would be to use graph paper to map your own personal space, such as your room or office. another example would be to paint a map of your city maybe with a key to rivers and streets. a final example is to make a map of the world of your imagination.

This is a fantastic idea -- really clever and interesting! I'm in.

How creative!! Most impressed with the swap idea and can't wait to see what I get in return...already brewing ideas for my own map!!!

I love maps, too, and often incorporate personal maps and diagrams into my art. Have you read "You Are Here" by Katharine Harmon? Excellent look into personal and quirky mapping.

That sounds like a very intriguing book! I'm going to Amazon to check it out! :) Thanks for the tip!

Swap has been changed to one partner. i am thinking of making this into a series so that we may collect several maps. just an idea. let me now what you think.

Great idea, I love maps, too. Mediatinker - I;ve got "You are Here" and it's a great book. Also ... I can't lay my hands on it right this minute, so I can't remember exactly what it's called, but it's by a couple of dutch people, and they originally did it as a Christmas gift to clients (they must be graphic designers or advertising or something). Anyway, it's full of maps with places related to emotions. That;s not really very helpful, is it. Never mind, I will have another good look tomorrow and see if I can find it and give more details. I like the idea of a series of themed maps. It will give me incentive to draw more or different ones than the sort I usually draw. :-)

I love maps but am directionally challenged! I looked for the "You Are Here" book on Amazon and am quite curious. Just as I am by the book paperholic mentioned also. Ever find the name of that one? What a wonderful swap idea.

What a great-sounding swap. The idea of a series of maps is also intriguing. Rather like creating a series of mandalas, maybe.(Just thinking out loud) 'You are Here' is one of my favourite books. Geist magazine's series of themed maps of Canada is also fun. Looking forward to sharing my world and exploring yours. -Barbara

My map's headed to Sydney. Should be there in a couple of days.

amylyn 07/16/2007 #

my map went out to my partner today!

Writechen - yes, I did find out the name of the book - it was hiding in my bookcase all the time! it is called The Atlas of Experience. I bought it a few years ago but it might still be around.

paperholic thanks for the book ideas. I have not been able to get either of them at local library, but may try amazon.

I am so embarrassed! I never saw this swap, and I named one of my swaps the same thing! My apologies and I am off to find another name!

writechen, your map is in the mail! (Sorry to be a little late, I wanted to take it into the Official Post Office Scale this morning and make sure it wasn't heavier than I thought.)
