Description:

I've been wistfully watching all the Biscornu swaps pass by, mostly because I just don't want to do cross-stitch embroidery right now, but I want one! So I hope others out there will join me in making non-cross-stitched biscornus.
They should be made from at least 3" squares of beautiful fabric. You can:

*embroider on them, BUT NO CROSS STITCH--there are plenty of cross stitch biscornu swaps out there.
*applique little shapes or *tie-dye the fabric, *hand paint with fabric paints, or * just use small pieces of that wonderful expensive tapestry/upholstery fabric that many stores will cut a three inch square "sample" of for you!

The border of backstitching seems to make the whole assembly part easier, so don't forget that!

~~ One biscornu for one lucky partner! ~~

What are "Biscornus" you ask? They're odd little pin cushions made by stitching together two squares of fabric but in a skewed way: Check out this site

and this one

Newbies are welcome with well-filled profiles. Rated swappers must have at least 4.9 and no no-sends

FLAKING IS BAD! Emergencies happen, we all understand that, but good communication is necessary if this happens. I cannot angel this swap, so you are on your own with your partner and the angels of Swap-bot if flaking happens.

If anyone wants to do this swap Internationally, feel free to use any of my text here- I just can't afford the postage for anything but small flats out of the US.

How cool. I joined the newbie red biscornu swap, and as I created my design, I kept thinking how nice it would be in crewel embroidery or applique, and here you are. I'm in!

twobluecrows has found great patterns for guides...but I found one a little bigger for these eyes, I hope she does mind me posting it:

http://.own-two-hands.livejournal.com/4186.html

I working on my first one before I join in.... ;0).

panda1957, I don't mind at all, but that URL seems to be missing something-it doesn't take me anywhere. Can you check it and post it again? Also, if you want to make it a live link use brackets [ ] around the title, then parentheses ( ) around the URL with no saces in between and it should turn blue and be live.

like this: [biscornu tutorial]no space(http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/biscornu.htm)

with the "nospace" removed it becomes this:

Tomorrow is the last day to sign up--I'll assign partners in the mid-morning EST on Saturday the 6th (unless something drags me away form the computer or the cable goes out--sometimes it happens when it snows!)

I found the problem--there's a dot before the own-two-hands

here's the link

Don't forget though that those are all cross-stitch patterns on that page, this swap is for anything but cross stitch!

Just one clarifying question: are we required to do some sort of embroidery, or is that one option among many?

panda1957 02/ 5/2010 #

thank you for finding my error....I am still learning this site.

I found some cute fabric the would work for this pattern...without the embroidery. I like to put some detail work into it. Puffy face make detail of fabric stand out with just stitching around it. No major though train going here. Work smart not hard....LOL. Cross stitch is my hubby talent, to little for these bad eyes... ;0).

Nothing is required except no cross-stitch. You can do some crewel-type if you like, or applique, or add beads or silk ribbon embroidery, etc, or just use really cool tapestry fabric or something else. Creativity is your choice.

Ok, partners are assigned, let's swap!

I found some instructions for machine stitching one together:

camelsamba, that's great! I didn't even remember that the cross stitch ones in the tutorials I saw were done right side out--I did mine basically the same way as in the link, but by hand--it would have been so much quicker by machine! Next time...LOL!

Thanks for the link!
