Description:

Let's do a different take on Whimsy jars, by using Chinese-Style Boxes and cramming them Full of Different Foods with Faces!!!! You can find Chinese-Style Boxes at Jo-Ann Fabrics, Micheal's, anywhere, in a wide array of colors and patterns, just make sure that these have never been used before (We wouldn't want to send some nice goodies in a pre-used crusty food box, would we?). Decorate the container with whatever Kawaii stuff your partner will like and fill it to the brim with any goodies that are kawaii food with faces, some ideas are...keychains/zipperpulls, mini Blindbox figure, sack of sticker flakes, mini plushies, jewelry, candy, bento supplies, etc. You could also put a few extra goodies that aren't food with faces, such as, makeup. You can find wonderful kawaii goods at places like Borders Book Store, where all the Manga is, or even On-Line. Please read your partners profile for their likes and dislikes also. Happy Kawaii-ing!!!!! Also, I'm giving the send by date, after Christmas, so we can all take our time with these. The Rules are:

Take-out boxes must be the larger-sized boxes, no little boxes! No Flakers (if you don't intend to send something, then you do not belong in this) 4.9 and up are welcome Newbie-Friendly (we were all newbs once, so no harsh judgements please

And Last but not least.....HAVE FUN!!!!!!!

Awesome, awesome swap! I actually have a candy corn one from Halloween, which I can probably paint & deco out:)

Would it be okay to use an actual take-out box if we could get the restaurant to give us a new un-used box?

This sounds like a lot of fun! Although if I could be paired with someone in Europe if possible that would be helpful due to postage charges. If not I am still in :)

robotlove, a new take out box from a restaurant is definitely okay with me, they always have some cute designs on them : D

Silencio 12/ 5/2009 #

How big should the box be?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe they are the quart sized boxes, since the pint size are the smaller ones. I did this once before in another kawaii swapping group on Yahoo, and I love this idea! I will be all in, even if I don't really like the food with faces myself...lol. I will put a list of the designs I like on my profile so my partner can pick out a few things (crosses fingers...lol).

I'd really love to join this swap, but I'm sort of new to finding kawaii stuff. Any online shopping suggestions? I already know about shopkawaii.com and have checked out my local Borders...they had Domo and some Tokidoki stuff, but that was about it. Would a few things from Etsy be okay to include? I must say - I am so happy to have this new Kawaii obsession! :)

A quart sized box is perfect! Also, anything from etsy will be great as well!

is the quart sized box the regular sized box that most people would get from a chinese restaurant? O.o I've never actually tried to fill one with liquid or thought of measuring them.

Michael's has those party take out boxes in colours and patterns. They are in the party section.

If you're shopping at a craft store, it should be the medium sized take out box. It's about 4 inches high and 3.5 inches wide. The size of a quart box varies. Here are some measurements I found at online stores.

4-1/2"L x 3-1/2"W x 4-1/4"H

2 5/8" W x 4 1/4" H x 3 3/8" D

2 3/4" x 3 3/4" bottom, 3 3/4" x 4 3/4" top, and 4" tall

The box from a chinese restaurant may be one of these sizes or even a little bigger.
