Description:

This swap is for anyone who loves somewhat dark, mysterious and gothic Victorian (and maybe Edwardian) designs, stories, pictures etc. Any type of folklore surrounding gypsies, vampires, werevoles etc are included within the parameters of this swap.

Note that this swap is not purely goth-related, so skulls etc are not entirely appropriate (except perhaps in a Edgar Allen Poe type of way).

Make or decorate a journal (at least 5x7 but you can pick the shape and details) as elaborately as possible, giving it a rich, darkly mysterious feel. You can add brocade pieces or velvet, laces, maybe an old rusty key etc.

Inside, write a few pages about why you like these themes, what fascinates you about it. You can include books or movies you've really enjoyed, poems that speak to you, or put other pictures inside. You can also add sketches or drawings, pictures etc. The content is pretty much up to you. You should fill 10-20 pages of the journal, depending on what you're putting into it.

Include at least 3 additional items with this swap. They can be themed ATCs, pieces of velvet ribbon, gothic jewelry, a book - it's totally up to you. These items do not have to be expensive - they can be storebought or handmade - but they should be clean and not dirty/smelly etc.

Newbies & anyone with a rating of less than 4.9 should contact me before signing up. Please feel free to email me with questions, suggestions etc. :)

I LOVE the idea of this swap (surprising if you read my profile) but wish there was more time. Watching though.

Ok so I've never really fully grasped journal swaps. So let's see if we can clairify it a bit for me. I get the whole decorate a journal in a certian theme and then write a little note in it. But as for "content" I don't really get that...am I supose to use 10-20 pages of the journal. I think that's a little odd, I wouldn't know what to write??? So help me out on this a little and explain that for me. The swap sounds fun though and I would like to participate

I'm a newbie that would enjoy this swap. Check out my profile and let me know what you think! I'm thinking that every dark girl would love to dance like a gypsy! Anyway, since I am new, you know that I'll be trying to impress my partner...so you can look forward to something ultra-special!!!

I really want to join but I don't know if I can finish one to my satisfaction (I never send something I wouldn't give a heart for) in the timeline. I will see if I have time to start it before the signup date. Watching for now.

I'm finding all kinds of awesome stuff for this. Thanks for adding me to your swap!

I would love to join but the end to send is just too fast for me.

I can definitely move the date up by a few weeks if that makes it easier for anyone to join. Any suggestions?

centralperky31 08/25/2009 #

I moved the deadline by a month - does that work?

amikins 08/25/2009 #

The deadline move is lovely, but I would still like my questions answered before I decide to sign up or not...

OOOooo! Yippee! Thanks!!! Is it possible to request that our journal be blank? I Want to fill out my own. Awesome idea.

Boupie 08/25/2009 #

I can probably do this now... I just need to finish a couple swaps and I am in... this is going to be fun... oh, and I don't mind a very gothic one, I am in a HUGE steampunk mode lately so anything like that would be great!

centralperky31 08/26/2009 #

Great, I'm glad that moving the deadline seems to work for everyone! :) I totally don't mind, I'd rather everyone can really immerse themselves and take time to make something fabulous!

Our coordinator lost her mother within the past month. She says she is not able to send out her swaps or rate anyone until January at the earliest. Just wanted to let everyone know, in case you didn't receive her e-mail.
