Description:

For an example of what you'll be swapping, go to this website:

http://www.bcdezigns.com/BCtexturedletters.htm

Choose a letter of the alphabet -- any letter -- and decorate it. Use your favorite mediums or break out of the box and try mediums you have never used. Sharpies, fabric, yarn, newspaper, paint -- anything that will give your letter texture.

You can use any style of letter you would like -- the more open the letter is, the more space you'll have fun filling up with texture. If you aren't a calligrapher (as I am not), you may want to look for styles of letters on the internet and choose one that you like. If you do an image search on Google, you'll find quite a few styles to choose from. You could print out the style you want and enlarge it to fill a postcard.

Fine Details:

  1. Make 3 postcards. Each postcard should display only 1 letter of the alphabet. That letter should fill most of the postcard and should be decorated with textures. Make sure that whatever you attach to your postcard will be able to withstand the abuses of the postal system.

  2. Mail the 3 postcards to the three people you are assigned to by Swap-Bot. This is an international swap. Postage costs shouldn't be too high since we are only mailing postcards.

  3. Patiently await the arrival of your textured letter postcards. ;-)

  4. Leave feedback as soon as your postcard(s) arrive. (You don't have to wait any more. This is a new feature of swap-bot.)

  5. Have fun!

am i the only one who cant read this because it doesn't fit in the box and its running into the ads??

spinjenny 06/ 3/2007 #

Can you clarify what you mean by texture? I thought at first that you meant 3d/tactile texture, but it looks as though the Barbara Close examples you gave are flat visual texture.

Dragonfly, I made a couple of edits and now the text is showing right for me. Can you read it now?

Spinjenny -- you can add texture, any type of texture, you would like. You can keep it flat and make visual texture with paint or markers or whatever medium you would like. Or you could go with dimensional texture with cloth, yarn, buttons, etc. You choose. Or, do a mix of both! ;-) Have fun!

Thanks for clarifying. I'm looking forward to the swap.

Just a FYI, it's 90 cents to mail a postcard internationally.

AshleyShea 06/ 3/2007 #

Amy, it depends on where you are mailing from/to. It's only 69¢ to mail a postcard from the U.S. to Canada or Mexico...and maybe a few other places, too.

I would like to join in this one. Can we send the post-cards in an envelope?

AshleyShea 06/ 8/2007 #

Lulu, you can send each postcard in an envelope if you want. I was trying to make this swap less costly on postage.

O.K., AshleyShea, thanks.

I didn't make it to the postoffice before they closed today.....but my cards are ready and in the mailbox for pickup tomorrow. Be on the lookout Shari, Marjorie and Jenny. Let me know when they arrive.

Hey Everyone, I got a great card from Australia today, it's got blue and green doilies and the letter "A" on the front and it has been laminated, but there is no name or for what swap it's for, although I think it's for this one. Please let me know if you sent this to me so that I can rate you, Thanks!

I apologise for being late, but my postcards for cookiebear, artfulamy and Luxvalentine will be in the mail in the morning - Friday 13th!

AshleyShea 07/15/2007 #

I, too, am late. Jenny, Marjorie, and Barbara -- my postcards will go into the mail on Monday. I hope they don't take too long to arrive.
