Description:

Swap for lesson two Γ’β‚¬β€œ

For this swap, you will make 3 ATCs for your partner. Each ATC will have the contour of a letter on it. (I plan on using my partnerÒ€ℒs initials.) Using either ink or graphite, fill each letter with a different type of line. Use hatching, cross hatching, squiggles or stippling to show light and dark in the letters or to show that the letters are rounded. (Here is a hint: stippling is done easier in ink than in pencil.) DonÒ€ℒt make the letters too thin, they will be more difficult to fill in with hatch marks. For variation, you may want to fill the letter with one type of mark, and the outside with a completely different type of mark.

EDIT - as was so kindly pointed out to me a few minutes ago by bluehighways, i complete neglected to point out that colour can be used in these ATCs. (and i call myself an art teacher!! what was i thinking?)

so let's do this. the hatch marks and such can be made by using graphite, black (waterproof) ink, coloured pencils or coloured (waterproof) ink. - Micron pens are great pens to use for this project. Also, there area a couple of bic pens out there that say "waterproof" right on the package. here is a hint: the finished cards will look best with darker marks (ie ink or dark coloured pencils.)

thanks bluehighways for keeping me on my toes!

I would love to see an example of this - any way for someone to get a quick example together? If not, that's okay...

as i was doing one of my atcs, and realised that i left something out that may make things a bit easier for you. if you are going to work in ink (black or colour), try drawing the contour in very light pencil first. if you mess up, it can be erased and you don't feel like you have to start all over again. when you have the letter the way you want it, then ink it. let the ink dry really well - i usually wait several hours just to be sure - then erase any stray pencil marks you may see.
