Description:

This is a long term committment to take part in a travelling journal. Each participant starts on July 15th with a new sketchbook. Recommended sizes 8 x 10" or 10 x 10" or A4, this gives enough space to make cool pages, but not too huge to post.

The idea is that you work in your own journal first of all, creating a minimum of 4 double page spreads. On 1st September you send your journal to the next on the list (imagine a circle of people). Depending on where you live you should receive a journal within 2 weeks, giving you around 6 weeks to work on it before sending it off back into the circle. Each round robin will have 6 people, so that your journal will come back to you in one year's time.

Journals will be posted on 1st September, 1st November, 1st January (or as soon as your Post Office is open), 1st March, 1st May, returning 1st July 2010.

The journal has few restrictions, to enjoy this project you need to do what you love in it. The only tiny criteria is that when you receive a journal, you take an element of the previous page into your 1st page. Their page may have circles on, so you could start your page with circles or they may have used a photograph of themselves, so you could put your picture on your first page. You would also need to put something on your first page to show you have taken over the journal, your name, your moo card, or buy making a tab for the edge of the page.

Once 6 people have signed up for this swap, this swap will close, then Round Robin #2 will be posted to allow new members to participate as they join.

Obviously no-one wants to be left without a journal at the end or for the chain to be broken, so only sign up if this is something you will love to do, want to do and have time to do. It doesn't matter what your style is. We all create in different ways and that is why this will be such a fun project. So hit the button let's get going! Any questions or suggestions to alter this slightly, please pm. Enjoy!

I won't be able to participate in this first round robin:(

But I do have a question...how many pages should my journal have? And if I have to send international how do I track the package when it's sent from the United States? I've had packages go missing because I can't attach a delivery confirmation to international mail packages.

This sounds like so much fun. Hopefully next round I can play.

The 10 x 8" I can get in England (Seawhite) has 70 pages (140 sides). The 10 x 10" has 85 (190 sides). I prefer these as the pages are sized to take wet media. It depends what you can get in your country and what you're comfortable working with. As the for the postage, in the UK, Royal Mail does not do any tracking for parcels going outside of the country. The only option is to use something lke UPS, but this is costly and you need an account with them and you need to be in to receive the package.

When you receive somebody's journal how many pages are you supposed to add? Just to be clear.

We are saying a minimum of 4 double page spreads, but you can do more if you want, it depends on the time you have available (and inspiration!). 4 would give you 1.5 weeks for each spread, and would show your work/style in the book. However there would be space to do more, as much as 12 spreads in a larger sketchbook. When the book returns to the original owner it would have pages left for the owner to complete the book, maybe just a few, or if everyone had done 4, there would be half the book left and you could send it out again on the next one if you wanted. I don't want to set really strict limits, as a larger committment could put people off joining. I personally get put off swaps where they say, so many pages of poetry, so many painted pages etc cos I have to be in the mood and like my freedom!

Yeah of course, I totally understand that, I wanted to just make sure it was more than you know 1 or 2 because that would kind of defeat the purpose of sending it all around!
