Description:

So, for this swap, we will be sending a trading card collector box full of ATCs.

These boxes can be found next to the ultra-pro trading card sleeves, or you can find them with the trading cards. It can be made of plastic, like the ultra-pro brand or it can be a tin like a lot of the collector boxes you will find in the trading card section of your local hobby shop or wal-mart.

You should decorate the box, any way you would like, and then fill it with ATCs you have made. The cool thing about this swap is that you can make your ATCs with chunky embellishments if you would like, or you can make a lot of thin ones.

You do not have to pack the cards into the box, but you should put enough in there that the box is at LEAST half full. I'm sure everyone would prefer to receive a FULL box, though.

This swap will be U.S. only due to postage--I send a lot of mail to a friend in Germany, and with the new rate increase in postage, my budget is getting tighter.

Since this is somewhat of an ambitious swap, I will not allow swappers with a rating of below 4.8.

The ATCs should fit the standard size of 3.5 by 2.5 inches, blah, blah... you guys know the drill. If you don't just email me and I'll fill you in!

Happy swapping

Are these the little plastic boxes the size of an ATC and about an inch thick?

LiveTheChaos 05/19/2007 #

well, the ones I've seen are a bit thicker. The one I have is an ultra-pro brand box. It's black plastic, the size of an ATC and about 1 3/4 inches thick. It's called a "deck box". I found it right next to the ultra-pro trading card sleeves at my local hobby lobby.

if I can find one, I can probably play. I'd love to do this, but I'm not sure where to find the box. The only boxes I've seen are like 4 inches high!

Are these the sort of boxes you have in mind....

Cool idea for a swap. I don't know if people in other countries can get these boxes, so I might check into that and then see if I can coordinate an international version of the swap.

PostMuse, Those boxes would work just fine. They are a little different from the ones I've seen, but that's good!

How about these boxes? I love altering them and they hold about the same as the ultra pro ones. I get these at the LSS for 2.00. Thanks, Barbara

GBNAABENNETT-- Those boxes are PERFECT! I LOVE them! Great find!

O.K. I'm in then!

Do all of the ATCs have to be made by us personally or can we include ATCs made by other swappers?

Noell 06/ 6/2007 #

I am wondering the same thing that Reb just asked.

LiveTheChaos 06/ 8/2007 #

Reb, It would be ok to include cards made by other swappers, but please also include cards made by yourself too! Also, please only include cards you would like to receive.

Okay, I have a few other swappers in my family and they offered to make an ATC or two for this project. I would feel a little better if we had a number to shoot for on this...10, 15, 20? I am using the clear plastic box from Hobby Lobby. The nearest Wal Mart has stopped selling all of the baseball collector's items.

I have the Ultra Pro which measures 3 3/4" X 2 3/4" by 1 3/4" and will fit the traditional ATC measurements. Some of the boxes I looked up on line were not even 3 1/2 X 2 1/2. One was 2 5/16 wide....it would have to be 2 8/16 to actually be 2 1/2" wide. The reason I'm being so specific is, if you're making your ATCs 3 1/2X 2 1/2.....the finished card is not going to fit in a box that is 2 5/16 wide..........I would hate to cut down all my ATCs to fit that width and I would hate to receive cards that had been cut down. I'm not trying to put anybody off this swap.... we only have 9 swappers..... but it would be discouraging to do all that work and then find that the box is not even as big as the ATCs.

Also, on the "how many ATCs".......I'm just going to keep making them until I can't get anymore in the box. But, if Gartenzwerg wants to put a minimum on it, that's fine by me also.

The closest store that sells ultra pro deck boxes is 100 miles. So, I will look for something else. Maybe a tackle box or sewing notion box. I'm shooting for 50 cards by August. And I'm only sending my own cards, not someone else's trades. I guess it's ok if you're family is helping you but I don't want cards you received in another swap.

user6095 06/14/2007 #

Cheryl,

I do not have your name for this swap.

I am starting to feel a little bad about asking an honest question on here. Now the swap is closed I feel this is rather negative feedback when I thought this was supposed to be fun. All of this just because I asked a question and did not even say what I was actually going to do. I respect you as an adult and would not begin to tell you what I expect from you in this swap.

My intial thought was what if someone doesn't like what I like? They will be stuck with a box of ATCs they don't like.

Now if anyone in this swap has any other intentions than just having a good swap then maybe I made a mistake joining?

Turtle 06/19/2007 #

Reb, I apologize. Deeply. I love making and receiving ATC's and I would not want to deprive you of the pleasure of teaching members of your family the joy you get from making these little works of art.

This is like that commercial on TV where the teenage girl's picture keeps appearing on the bulletin board no matter how many times she takes it down. Ad says, 'if you post your picture on the internet, everyone can see it, and you can't take it back'.

Next time, I'll think before I speak.

I sincerely hope you all accept my apology and have fun with this swap.

user6095 06/19/2007 #

Cheryl, No harm done...I have been so busy making ATCs for this swap. I have completed 12 cards to date with a few more in the works as we speak. I ditched the plastic box because the one I bought was not large enough to accommodate the ATCs in sleeves. I did find another box that I liked better. I hope everyone will be able to scan at least the boxes and upload them. It would be great to see what everyone comes up with for this swap. Is everyone else having fun?

KellyR 06/22/2007 #

I was just wondering about how many cards you all were going to to send?

Turtle 06/27/2007 #

How many? Well, I'm signed up for a lot of swaps, so I'm making an extra one of each of those for this one. And I'm always making extra ATC's with the left over scraps from whatever I'm working on. So I'm going to just keep making them until August 9th and then mail them out. I figure that's at least one per day.

Turtle 07/23/2007 #

For the record, I have 21 cards made to date. I found a tin that is the perfect size and it has the dancing m&m's on it. It's so cute, I don't want to embellish it. What do you think?

user6095 07/24/2007 #

I have 27 cards completed but I think I can fit at least 30 in the box. I am going to keep adding ATCs until the box is full or it is time to mail. The box I used is wooden. I like it a lot even if I do say so myself.:) If the person who receives it does not like it I will be happy to trade whatever I receive with them.

eonsmomma 08/ 6/2007 #

I have 25 cards and my box is full. Some of them a bulky. I will be mailing friday (payday).
