Description:

For this swap you will send 20 crocheted yoyos in different colors to 1 partner. Please make no more than 2-3 yoyos alike using the same color yarn. Yoyo-ghans are beautiful made with all differnt multi-colored scrap colors, so my goal is to receive as many different colors as possible:)) This is a great project to use up some of those little bits of scrap yarn you have laying around.

If you have never made a yoyo before, then you are in for a treat:)) These little critters are probably the easiest thing you will ever make:))) Here's some links on how to make a simple yoyo, 12" yoyo square and a yoyo afghan.

This swap is open to all members of the Granny Squares Galore as long as you don't have any recent unexplained 1 or 3 ratings. I will be checking profiles before assigning partners.

is there any yarn requirements, like cotton or acrylic, wool...etc.? i have a TON of cotton and acrylic yarn that i have too little for anything else lol

Acrylic yarn is best for these. In order for all the yoyos to be the same size, it's important that we all use the same yarn, 4-ply worsted weight for the USA, and if I am not mistaken, 8-ply worsted weight is the UK equivalent for our 4-ply.

I am watching this... I have to see how well my wrist feels later this week before I dive in. I really want to do this, I've been aching to do a yoyo afghan for a while and this would jump start me.

I am not sure what hook size to use for this project. Is there a size that is standard for these yo-yos? I have never made them before.

bettflow09 07/ 7/2009 #

I use a size H hook. That's the size that is suggested in the instructions listed in the link I posted. H works great for me:))) If you tend to crochet loosely, you might want to consider moving down a size to a G, but if you tend to crochet really tightly, then might want to give an I hook a try.

1 more question so I can finish mine:do I need to weave in the ends or leave them out for sewing together? I know that the tutorial gives instructions on how to put together also everybody had their own preferences on putting together.

can we use variagated(sp?) yarns? i have a ton of variagated yarn scraps as well as solid colors.

bettflow09 07/11/2009 #

@PaintedGreene varigated yarns are great for yoyos:)) Any variety, any colors, varigated, tweeds, speckeled, any of these are great!!!

@genischapman ....good question!!! It does make it easier joining the yoyos if we leave a 6"-8" tail on the outside. Please weave in the inside tail, but if you want to leave the outside tail that will be great:) This is not a requirement, so if some of you have already weaved in all of the tails that's perfectly fine:)) But if you have not, it would be best to leave a tail on the outside of the yoyos for joining. Thanks @genischapman !!
