You need to fill a cigar box full of any kind of fabric, FQs, notions, useful tools that you could stand to part with. You can send used items as long as they are in excellent condition! In this you are to send at least the following:

  • 2 FQs of coordinating fabrics. NO SOLIDS

  • 1 spool of unopened thread

  • 1 useful tool (i.e. thimble, scissors, tape measure, etc)

  • 2 yds of interesting ribbon

  • 1 small item you have made specifically for this swap

  • 1 surprise item

I will be checking profiles. You must have a fully filled out profile to participate. You must have a rating of 4.9 or higher. You can use a wooden cigar box or one of the old time cardboard ones. Just as long as it is considered a cigar box.

Pic is of a morsebag I made out of 4 in squares.

where do we find cigar boxes ?

junemoon 06/ 9/2009 #

I did have a couple cigar boxes a couple months ago but gave them away and don't have any idea where to get another -- unless I bought a box of cigars and I'm glad to say I don't know anyone who smokes then. If you decide to do this swap again but specifying maybe a flat rate mailing envelope I would join, I like the combination of items.

dmarie 06/ 9/2009 #

or perhaps a papermache box ?

rockabyeretro 06/ 9/2009 #

wish I could do this one, but I don't have a cigar box:(

NeferTnah 06/ 9/2009 #

you can buy cigar boxes from the smoke shops for a few dollars usually~

dmarie 06/ 9/2009 #

sorry to be not so wise about this but what is a "smoke shop"?

LINDA50 06/ 9/2009 #

You can find them on Ebay. Go to a place that sells cigars and ask if they have any empty boxes.

NeferTnah 06/ 9/2009 #

smoke shop- tobacco/cigarette shop -check your phone book for locations near you.

It doesn't have to be a cigar box per se, it is about 8 inches wide and about 9-10 inches long. Usually about 2 inches deep. It has a lid. If you want to make one, go for it! I'm sorry to have made this complicated! lol

Just a thought...cigar boxes are pretty smelly! So I would recommend that when you get your box set it outside or in your garage open for a couple days to air it out. That way the goodies (especially the fabric) won't smell of cigars.

crochetjunkie 06/ 9/2009 #

right on! I was planning on putting my items in a large gallon ziplock bag before in the box. I have some really nice wooden cigar boxes I got at a rummage sale for a quarter each. that is what made me think of this swap.

Crochetjunkie - no worries...It is a fun idea!!!!! - I will try hard first to find a cigar box... If not I will make one :)

mommy2dylan 06/ 9/2009 #

Another thought... I really think that the cigar box should be altered! I wouldn't want to receive a plain ol cigar box. Why spend the money on the shipping cost if the box isn't special?

Fritosmom 06/10/2009 #

I will look for a cigar box this summer while Yardsailing - so please do this again in the Fall.

crochetjunkie 06/10/2009 #

absolutely! I can do this again. Yardsaling is my favorite thing to do in the summer!!

you can decorate the cigar box if you want to. I think it's a neat idea! It's not a requirement, but if you do it, it could be counted as extra for a heart.

I saw some plain white empty "cigar boxes" for sale at Michaels a while back. They were in the section with kid's crafts. You can probably find them around back-to-school time for kids to put pencils and crayons in.

I have chuckled all the way through the posted messages. I am the biggest packrat in the world. A cigar box is not my problem (i have stacks of them) - to use your words, crochetjunkie, "useful tools that you could stand to part with" is my problem. Antique/unique sewing notions are my weakness ---- what will I part with????? Have to join this one. Thanks, for a terrific idea.

diamondsapril 06/12/2009 #

What do you mean by FQ of material? sorrry, new at this, want to join this but not sure about the FQ

crochetjunkie 06/12/2009 #

yes, diamond. FQ of fabric. FQ is typically 18 in by 22 in of fabric. No reason to be sorry! The only stupid question is the one not asked!!!

dmarie 06/13/2009 #

There were some boxes at Michaels - our cigar shop wanted too much -silly
