My Dear Friends, Last month marked the 500th anniversary since our beloved St. Hildegard’s church was erected. The church has seen many happy, and sad times among our ancestors and families. While I was researching the past rectors, I found a notation referring to the stained glass windows of the church. As you know, there is only one window with coloured glass and that depicts the coat of arms of the Farnsworth family. To know our little church was once adorned with sacred images that were illuminated by the passing sun gave me pause to sit and ponder what those windows may have looked like, what the images were, who their patrons were and most importantly what happened to them! I have made inquiries as to the fate of the windows but to date no one has any recollection of seeing or hearing about them. I ask you all, to speak to your families, perhaps someone will remember some small detail that will shine a glimmer of light on this mystery and perhaps in time, that item of information may lead to others and a clearer picture may emerge. In this, the 500th year of our Church’s existence, let us uncover the secret of the missing stained glass windows and work towards replacing them so our church is whole once again. In Christ, Mr. Shapleigh Thomas, Rector For this swap, we shall dream of stained glass windows. Find an image that you believe may have been one of the missing stained glass windows of our dear St. Hildegard Church. Once you have found your image, print it out and with the help of THIS VIDEO transform your image into a pseudo stained glass image. Make a little border for it that will allow the light to shine through and illuminate it and when complete, send it to your partner along with a note from your Amberleigh persona. To recap, you will have one partner to whom you will send an image of a stained glass window which you have made translucent using the information from the video link above. The image need not be larger than 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) nor should it be smaller than 3 x 5 inches (7.5 x 12.5 cm) and have a border around it so that the image may be seen from both sides. You may draw and colour in the stained glass image but whether that will work with the process in the video, I cannot say if the colours will run.. Add a little note from your character to your partner and send it on its way. NOTE I used a beeswax furniture polish to do a trial run of this process and that worked just fine so if you don't have beeswax at hand, check your cupboard for a wax-based polish to use instead. Here is a link to read about the history of St. Hildegard's Church: LINK This is a fairly straight forward craft but if you have any difficulties, please get in touch and we will be happy to help in any way we can. |
