Yokai ATC #3

Anybody out there?... hello?

Oh! Hi! I'm glad to see you're still with us! It's been a while, hasn't it? We're sorry about the absence. Life really gets in the way of fun and creativity sometimes, but better late than never - right?

At long last, round 3 of the Yokai ATC series is finally here! I hope you will join us, again or for the first time, in the first MM&L group swap in over a year and have fun creating a little work of art.

Yokai is a broad term encompassing many different supernatural creatures and phenomena from Japanese folklore. Some are cute, some are scary, some are silly. Some are mischievous and some are helpful. They include ghosts, demons, spirits, goblins, monsters and more!

Check out this Yokai database to see many illustrated examples!
This site also has examples in different art styles. You do not have to use these references and are welcome to find your own resources!

For this swap, you will select any Yokai of your choice to use as the subject of your ATC. There are so many to choose from the possibilities are almost endless! Depict it in any manner you like using any medium created with effort. (meaning please put some time into this - sticker slapping or cutting and pasting a single image is not what we're looking for here.)

Since we'd likely get tired of swapping before we ran out of Yokai to choose from, this will be a series of free-theme Yokai ATCs that you can join as you please.

You can make your card ahead of time if you like as it's sender's choice - otherwise you will have a little over 2 weeks to create. If you do join multiple swaps in the series and want to make your card ahead of time, please make a different Yokai for each round or wait to see who your partner is so you don't make the same Yokai twice, as we may end up getting the same partners multiple times. This way we can all have a nice varied collection of wonderful Yokai ATCs!

For this round only: if you have participated before, you may make the same Yokai again as it has been so long since the last round. For future rounds, we will be choosing new Yokai to avoid repeats as much as possible.

Swap rules are as follows:

  • Create 1 ATC for 1 partner that depicts ANY Yokai of your choosing! The card may be hand drawn, painted, collaged, mixed media or similar. You may use ONE sticker if desired (no sticker slapping; the sticker should not be the main focus) and try to keep it relatively flat if you use any embellishments.

  • Standard ATC rules apply: 2.5" x 3.5" size, portrait or landscape, add a sturdy backing if you are not already using thick cardstock, write on the back the name of swap + your username, first name + last initial OR sign it if you like, & put the card in a protective sleeve of some sort. I also suggest enclosing the ATC in a notecard or between thin cardboard for extra protection.

  • Please include either on the back of your card or in a separate note - the name of Yokai you've chosen for your art. It may be fun to include a little bit of information about it as well, but this is not required.

  • Please rate fairly once you've received your ATC - no one likes to chase for ratings so please rate promptly as well!

  • Communicate with both your partner AND myself if you will be late getting your swap out for any reason. I will angel in the case of flaking after you have attempted communication with your partner and rated them a 1.

Message me if you have any questions, concerns, or other issues! Thanks for your interest and happy swapping! :)
