I am so sorry to hear about your loss...I have a dog who is 14 and still going strong but sometimes I cry because I know she will eventually have to go some day.

My heart goes out to you. I've got a mini-doxie who's 9 right now; she's my 4th dachshund. I totally love the breed. I also had one of my 6-yr-old cats die unexpectedly on Jan. 28, so I know the grief well. I'll watch the swap for the moment; will join in a bit.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have always had pets in my adult life...and yes it's horrible to lose them. It is never easy. I rescued Toby from the shelter just over a year ago. What a blessing he has been. The moment I picked him up in the shelter...he was loving on me. And still just the most lovable little fella. Of course he can be a little brat at time...but I wouldn't give any of it up. I truely am blessed that he choose me. Hugz to you!

Dear Maestraw: When I lost my faithful furry friend last year I thought I would never love anything as much as I did him, but a friend of ours told me about an 8 yr.-old Papillion whose owner died and left him and I immediately knew that we were meant for each other. His unconditional love has mended my broken heart. When you are ready, you will also find a dog who needs you as much as you need him. Big hug for you today!

So sorry to hear that : ( Dogs are really precious & they are always happy you're around. They really do become a member of your family. I think this swap is a great idea to lift your spirits.

My heart goes out to you for your loss... did you happen to see this past week's www.postsecret.com postings? There was one that said something like..."i heard that when you die, every dog you ever loved comes running up to you in heaven to say hi"..... I know your pup is up there playing with mine, just waiting for you...

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. We lost 2 GSD's each was 5yr old. The first we lost ON my hubby's birthday in 2002 then 5 yrs later after we had gotten attached to another GSD, we lost him the NIGHT BEFORE my hubby's birtday in Feb last year. I never wanted to love another animal. Now we have a baby ShihTzu and we both ADORE her! It still makes me sad to think of our Shadow and DJ, but I believe they are also in heaven together with all the loved ones who have gone before us, and we will all be together some day. (tears lol) yep, it's still hard and I guess unless you've had a pet you love as family, you can't understand the loss. I think this is a FANTASTIC swap!! Please add me! Thanks for putting this one together :)

Thanks to all of you for your kinds thoughts and words. My family adopted a 5 year old black lab in October, prior to losing our doxie. Our lab, Betty, was overweight, had mange, and eye and ear infections. Now, 5 months later, she is a beautiful girl who loves us as much as we love her. You all are wonderful. Thanks for sharing the sorrow and the joy with me. I plan on being greeted by Heidi when I reach the Pearly Gates. -mo

I too had to put my sweetie to sleep this past summer. She will be the 3rd. She was my son's best friend. It is so hard even today. Thanks for doing this swap and giving us a chance to share of love and memories with others.

I have had dogs all my life and I truly feel we will see all of our pets again...I truly do. My sister saved a dog that is part dachshund...last December. He was sick and no one had adopted him. She got him back to health and he is quite the character. Your love for you pets shows through in your writing. So I know you will be greeted by Heidi someday and I know that your lab, Betty, has a very good home.

I am so sorry for your loss. They are like our children. I have been in your shoes, and want you to know that you are not alone. Another dog will never take the place of Heidi, but you come to love Betty just as much.

So sorry to hear of your loss. 6 years after losing my 15yr old GSD I still miss her, love and remember her, but I concentrate on the good memories, before she became ill. And as has been said above, there are so many other little dogs who need our love and protection.We have to move on, with thanks in our hearts for the joy they all bring. Boy, do I know how you feel, after 16 yrs. I had to put my Boston terrier to sleep. Awful time. Couldn't stand the dejpression so my husband found another boston that looked identical to mine and found her on craigs list and bought her. What a difference in my life having a wonderful dog back again.
