A Bag For Cat

Let's Crochet A Hippie Bag!

image

~Due to shipping costs this one will be US only. Sorry.~

Calling on all of you who love to crochet. Help me honor my dear sweet amazing friend Cat by making some groovy Hippie Bags.

My friend Cat loved the pictures I sent her of the crochet squares I have been making for the Let's Build a Blanket Swap. While she knew how to knit she wasn't very familiar with crocheting. She had decided she wanted to try crocheting, as she called it, a Hippie Bag. So, we made plans to make them together this January as a fun project. She sent me a link to a design she loved and she was excited to make it. We, along with another friend, did a lot of crafting projects together (virtually) during the last year.

I found out that Cat passed away on Dec 18th. Not only that, I was told she took her own life. Cat had a lot of tragedy in her life and things were not easy for her. But for as sad as she was she also seemed so full of life. She was creative, silly, excited, loving, talented, and always learning something new. She owned her own online shop where she made the most amazing smelling perfumes. She loved cats, hers and all the rest!!! She will be greatly missed and I will have to find a way to learn to live without her here.

So, in honor of Cat, I would love to make that Hippie Bag she wanted to make and I would love for you to join me.

Swap Details

You will send 1 person the following...

  • 1 Crochet Hippie Bag - This is the bag that Cat had chosen. You can find the free pattern HERE on Ravelry.

  • 1 Something Extra - Tuck a little something inside the bag for your partner. Maybe a fun skein of yarn or something you think they might like based off their profile.

  • Add a Note - Find a note card, card or some fun stationery and write a nice note to your partner. More than a couple sentences, and tuck it inside with your something extra. It's always nice to know a bit about the person you receive something from.

  • Give Your Bag a Name - I know, go ahead and laugh, but this is so what Cat and I would have done. So, give your bag a name and make sure to tell your partner, in your note, the name and why you chose it.

Try to use this pattern

I would love for everyone to use this pattern to make their bag. So, if you can, please do. If you can not you may choose a different pattern as long as it is a similar style. I understand that not everyone is at the same level of crocheting and I want everyone who wants to be able to join this swap.

Specifications

  • Cat loved purple! I would love to see purple incorporated into these bags. Multiple shades of purple or simple accents of purple. However you like just make sure to add it in there somewhere.

  • The pattern above is shown with a chain strap. It is your choice how you want to do the strap. You can crochet a strap to attach to the D rings or you can attach a strap made of another material. Just make sure the strap is long enough to fall at about hip length (give or take).

  • The pattern above is shown with a fabric liner. You do not have to add the liner. If you want to that's great but it is not required.

  • The pattern above uses a lighter weight yarn and a smaller hook. There is no requirement on what you choose to use. If you want to use a worsted weight yarn instead that is fine. Your size will vary and that is fine too. Just try to keep it from getting too crazy big. If you are wanting to use wool please ask your partner first to make sure they are not allergic.

  • This is mostly sender's choice (as long as you follow the requirements) but it never hurts to check your partner's profile to see if there is anything they do not like (colors, etc.).

  • Please, no musty or smoke smelling yarn!

The Fine Print

  • This swap is for 4.95 rating or higher.

  • Must have done at least 10 number 2 or 3 swaps.

  • No 1's or 3's in the last year.

  • New people are welcome but only with a very well filled out profile.

  • You must have signed on to Swap-Bot within the week before partners are assigned.

  • Only sign up if you have the time to make this item, are willing to ship on time and are able to make the pattern shown above or a similar style. Thank you!

  • I reserve the right to ban anyone that I deem necessary.

  • I will angel if needed. Please contact your partner first and try to work things out. Be kind. Be patient. Be understanding. If you can not work things out, and you have rated your partner a 1, then message me.

  • If you have a question about this swap please send me a message as I don't always remember to check for comments.
