Description:

Thanks to craftygirl who said I may start another one.

The rules are very easy. Buy a composition book and write directions of things to do on all the pages. Then send to your partner and they can follow the directions and literally trash or wreck the journal! For inspiration and further description on this, check out the original "Wreck this Journal" website: http://www.wreckthisjournal.com

A few examples from the book are: Cover this page using only office supplies, draw with glue, This page is a sign. What do you want it to say?, write backwards, poke holes in this page...

The whole idea is to make a journal book for your partner with instructions on each page. In the process, they will "wreck this journal" by following your instructions and not feel guilty for doing so!

Rules: All good swappers only and new swappers with a filled out profile. No recent no-sends. Raing of 4.7 or higher. Because of the kind of journal book swap that it is, there is no need to decorate it much. After all, you may be instructed to drive over it!

I will give a long period of time to make this. Since there is no decorating involved and basically one-line instructions per page, it should move along quickly. It does not have to be tailored to your partners profile, so you can start on it now! Any questions, please ask.

I will be checking profiles before assigning partners.

EDIT Once your journal is done please send it back to the person who sent it to you so they can see what you did.

I got Wreck this Journal for xmas and I LOVE it, so this is perfect! I'm in! :-)

ccap 01/29/2009 #

Okay, this sounds like fun but I've never tried it so I'm a little nervous. A few quick questions:

  1. What size should the journal be?

  2. And, how many pages?

  3. And, should it be blank pages or lined pages?

  4. You say write directions on every page. Do there need to be different directions on the front and back of each page or should it be on each right-hand page? The reason I ask is if I get them to destroy page 1 in some manner if they turn over the page and there are more directions on page 2 they'd be useless as the page would be destroyed.

Sorry for all the questions. I just don't want to sign up unless I know what I'm doing.

I have the original Wreck this Journal and the directions appear to be on the right hand side of the pages, so that the left and right hand side are open for whatever directions you may write. I'm assuming the coordinator means the regular black and white marbled composition books (although I have one in a different color design). I think they all come lined with about the same amount of pages. Hope this helps and that I'm not butting in. :-)

Luthien07 01/29/2009 #

After wrecking the journal will we be returning it to our partners or keeping them?

AncientPlanter 01/29/2009 #

This sounds completely irresistible and I'm going to sign up, but I'd also like to know the answers to ccap's and Luthien07's questions.

CuppieCake 01/29/2009 #

Answers to your questions

  • What size should the journal be? Its a regular composition notebook. Usualy black and white marbled. But can also get different colors. I got mine for .97 cents at Target.

  • And, how many pages? All the ones Ive seen are 100 pages.

  • And, should it be blank pages or lined pages? It doesnt matter. But I think Ive only seen them with lines.

About sending them back. Id like to let me pm the people and ask. If everyone says yes we can :).

ccap 01/29/2009 #

Oh man, I asked all those questions and NOW I notice it's actually for USA only. Sorry for being a bother, I'm a Canadian and can't join anyway.

Is the long lead time from assignment of partner to completion to include the return to the one who sent you the wreck it book? Is the person who sends the wrecking book the one who is being rated? This sounds like fun!

CuppieCake 01/30/2009 #

Partners a assigned on 2/14. You need to send the journal to your partner by 4/2. Yes the one who send your the book is the one rated! But whoever send it to you you will return that book to them so they can see what you did! Did that make sense. I figure a month of so would be enough time to return it back!

Say if I send to you. You would return the book back to me by a month or a little longer

Then say if you send to AncientPlanter she will send your back to you with a month (or a little longer). Once partners are made I will m everyone and remind them who they gotta send back to :).

AncientPlanter 01/31/2009 #

Now, when you say every page will have instructions, do you mean both left and right sides, or will each be like a 2-page spread? So if I were to direct "poke holes in the page" the "wrecker" would poke holes on both left and right pages? Or poke holes in the left page and maybe smear coffee grounds on the right page? And it's the person who wrote the directions who gets rated, not the one following the directions, right?

CuppieCake 01/31/2009 #

Just use the front of pages not the bac. Yeah the one who sent you the journal gets rated!

AncientPlanter 01/31/2009 #

So just put instructions on the right side pages - or the odd pages if you were to number them, right? You'll have to forgive me - I'm perimenopausal plus my beloved cat died unexpectedly 2 days ago and he was only 6 years old - heart stopped. So I'm not thinking too clearly. But I bought my journal at the Dollar Tree (last one they had) and am ready to start writing directions. I don't have the original Wreck This Journal book so I'm going by what photos are on the internet.

CuppieCake 02/ 1/2009 #

Aww sorry to hear about your cat. Ok only use the fronts of pages. One page will have poke holes in this page. You will poke holes on the page that says it. You only do whats written on the writtten pages no other pages. So if one says trace everything in your purse/pocket do that on that page. You have to write at least 1 thing on each page so you gotta come up with 100 different things. But you could have 1 page that just says take this journal in the shower with you, then all they gotta do is bring it in with them. LOL. I hope you under stand but if not just ask. Ive been looking at pics also as I dont have the actual WTJ book.

kupkake 02/ 1/2009 #

Awww I wanted to keep mine. :( Please host another swap where we can keep the journal. :)

FarStarr 02/ 6/2009 #

I'm keeping a list with me at my desk and jotting down ideas..Fun Fun, Fun!!

AncientPlanter 02/ 6/2009 #

I do hope it's okay to "borrow" ideas from the original book and from different web sites? I made it through about 15, then couldn't think of any more on my own.

CuppieCake 02/ 7/2009 #

Thats fine if you borrow ideas. Thats what I did. Theres no way I could come up with so many ideas!

birthday0cake 02/ 8/2009 #

what about setting up a canadian one ?

CuppieCake 02/10/2009 #

Birthday0cake there is a international one going on right now!

AncientPlanter 02/10/2009 #

I've actually only got 10 more directions to come up with and then my journal is ready to mail out! Maybe I'll have to say "Glue or staple the next 8 pages together" 'cause I'm really at the end of ideas, and that includes "borrowed" ones.

FarStarr 02/11/2009 #

I'm almost up to 100 too. I googled "journalling prompts" and came up with a few more. I can't wait to see the finished product!

CuppieCake 02/11/2009 #

You girls already have alot!! Eek. Ive done a few pages but need more. LOL!

CarlyJo 02/11/2009 #

i'm going to sign up, but i hope i get my book before april!!

CuppieCake 02/11/2009 #

Thanks everyone for joining!!

FarStarr 02/13/2009 #

I plan on sending out my blank one right away so my partner can start the adventure quickly!

CuppieCake 02/13/2009 #

FarStarr you have to fill it out with things to do first? Did you know that? Just wanna make sure you have it right!

AncientPlanter 02/13/2009 #

I'm with FarStarr - mine is pretty much filled with directions and ready to go out for my partner to enjoy/destroy!

FarStarr 02/14/2009 #

Oh Yeah, I meant blank as in unwrecked...but full of prompts!

CarlyJo 02/14/2009 #

FarStarr 03/10/2009 #

CarlyJo 03/15/2009 #

CarlyJo 03/15/2009 #

AncientPlanter 03/17/2009 #

What a lot of fun this journal wrecking has been! I'm about half way through the one I've got.

FarStarr 03/23/2009 #

I mailed mine back to driftwood this morning. I'm so bummed that the lady at the post office wouldn't let me send it naked!!

CarlyJo 03/24/2009 #

How odd.... maybe just too much going on with it....i am going to your flickr to peak at what you did! :)

FarStarr 03/26/2009 #

I had tied it with string from the bakery. She didn't like the the string....:( I bet if I had taped the hell out of it, it would have been fine, but I liked the covers too much to cover them with tape.

CarlyJo 04/ 7/2009 #

Anyone get theirs back yet?

FarStarr 04/ 8/2009 #

Driftwood got hers back. I haven't seen mine yet.

CarlyJo 04/ 9/2009 #

Same here Farstarr. I was thinking of making another one, so that us who have not gotten ours yet can do one while waiting.

CarlyJo 04/14/2009 #

My partner is the swap host. She has not signed on since the 2nd, she is getting ones and i have pmed the others and they say that they havent received anything either.

I have contacted her twice, and have yet to get a responce. Would anyone be willing to angel this for me? If you take a look at the posting i have been VERY excited to do this swap! I am angry that she would flake at her own swap!

FarStarr 07/17/2009 #

I still haven't seen mine back...:(

AncientPlanter 09/ 9/2009 #

Haven't seen mine back, either. CraftDiva4's had it long enough, but she's ignoring my messages.
