Description:

What would be cuter than having a dotee face peaking out at you from the top of the current book you are reading?! In this swap we will have two partners, sending two dotee bookmarks to each, for a total of 4.

Make sure these beautiful dotees are flat and if you are using beads, please limit them to the ends of the hanger or tail - we don't want to damage our partners' books! They can be made with paper, lace, fabric, embroidered, or even knitted/crocheted if thin enough thread is used. Please make them long enough to actually be useful, somewhere in the 6-10 inch range - the size of an average bookmark/bookthong. The body doesn't have to be that long, but if you add on the hanger and tail, that many inches shouldn't be difficult.

Rating requirement of 4.8 to join. Newbies welcome with full profile but no no-sends in the last 6 months allowed. I will go over the list of swappers before I assign partners. If you have any questions, let me know! Let's have some creative fun with this!

Discussion

Hi all, I received a comment from one of your about whether the dotee has to fit inside the book. I thought it would be nice to answer/discuss this question here, in case others had a similar question. It might also generate some creative ideas we hadn't thought of.

I didn't envision the dotee having to fit inside the book. I had thought of a flat, fabric or lace body with a little dotee face peaking out - could be the usual embroidered/painted felt or clay or paper or even a button. Or your bookmark could be out of paper, but constructed similarly.

The question about whether the dotee had to fit inside the book generated other ideas for me. How about a book thong or book hook with an itty bitty dotee hanging off the end? Any other new ideas you'd like to share?!

I really like the book thong idea. I was kind of worried that the tail could hurt the book, and the dotee may be too thick. I was thinking a bookmark with a dotee head and ribbon tale when I first thought about this.

OMG, omg, omg! Did I waste four nights' work? I made some dotees, the body is the bookmark and flat, but the HEAD is NOT flat, it's supposed to stick out at the top. I don't want to go into too much detail and spoil the surprise for my recipients. But I just found the little word "flat" in the swap description and now I'm wondering if I've wasted my time making these and should start over with dotees that are completely flat, or is it ok having the part that's not inside the book be not flat? Help! Don't want any 3 ratings for something like that!

I had envisioned the body being the bookmark also and it being flat. I think that what you have put together sounds about right. I believe that we are just throwing ideas around here and that everyone will come up with their own version with the dotee head being whatever and sticking out the top. It sounds like the body could be a long flat piece or a thong or paper or whatever each person envisions

And yet another creative interpretation - I love that! @kugusch don't worry, as long as some of it is flat enough to fit in a book - that's fine. I'd love to see a picture of your (everyone's for that matter) bookmarks when they are finished!

ok, another update. I went to mail mine today and the PO tried to charge me 6.90 Euro (almost 10 dollars) postage to mail them. I'm sorry, there's NO way I'm doing that. The reason being the package was a MILLIMETER too thick! So I got the postage for the usual envie (2 Euro 20) and brought them back home to take just a bit of the stuffing out. I'm so very sorry, because of this I'll now be two days late in mailing (they'll go out on Monday), I know it's MY fault but I hope my recipients will understand. I just couldn't justify "wasting" 9 Euro 40 (around 14$) because of a millimeter.

Last update, I hope... @panda2778 and I communicated, I know everything's fine there. Didn't get a response from @yana841 yet, but left a message in profile. The Dotees have been "deflated" and are on their way now! Again, sorry about the 2 day delay.
