The Swap

If you have a wondering imagination and love to write you'll enjoy this swap.

This is the first in a series of fantasy writing swaps. You will write a letter (2 sides of a4 minimum) to your partners in the style of this monthรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs theme. You are free to let your imagination take you where it will. Although the swap only requires you to send a letter, you may wish to go that little bit extra and carry the theme as far as you can taking into account the materials you use.

This monthรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs theme is: You are a secret agent

Imagination prompts:

  • Where are you?
  • What brought you there?
  • How did you come across this address?
  • What do you need from this person?

This isn't a pen pal swap so don't feel obliged to form a pen pal relationship but if you are interested in doing so include this in an accompanying note. Donรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt forget to include your screen name or real name somewhere to make sure your partner knows whom the letter is from.

If you have any ideas for future themes please message me!

Links

There aren't any links at the moment but if anyone knows of any that could be included here please let me know.

The Conditions

Being as this is a relatively easy swap the swap is open to those with a rating above 4. Newbies are also welcome. If you have been given a 1 unfairly and otherwise good ratings, please feel free to sign up no questions asked. The only people I would like to ask contact me before the swap starts is those with two or more no sends in the past 6 months. If you don't contact me I may remove you from the swap without prior warning, as I do not have time to message each individual. This swap is international. If you do not receive a letter please email your partner once rating is available. Please do not give a 1 without trying to contact your partner first.

Enjoy!

First, the length is two sheets of paper, front and back, correct?

Second, I think it would be fine to send two letters IF it is ok if they are the same. That way those pressed for time can write one and photocopy it, and those who want to do more can write a whole new letter.

Loving the screen name! The lenth was for one sheet of A4 written (or typed if you prefer) on both sides (or the equivalent i.e. 2 sheets of one sided writing or 2 sheets of a5 front and back) minimum. I think people would find they go further as you can get caried away with the story!

I think I will change it to 2 partners with the condition that it is fine to send the same work. Is there anyone elase who would like to comment on this?

OK the swap is now for 2 partners. Digital copies/photocopies are fine. By doing this it reduces the risk of people being left with nothing in return if someone can't get their swap out.

Funny how the writers are usually the quietest discussions!

I was hoping to print top secret on my envelope to my pertners as a bit of mail art, but my hubby kindly pointed out that it would most likely get stoped and read at customs! Not good!

Cool idea! I am not sure I am clever enough for the secret agent theme, but I'll be watching for other themes. I used to participate in something called "ghost letters" through one of my favorite snail mail groups, The Letter Exchange that are quite similar, though the setting is more often than not in the past.

I'll be watching for more in this series. I am quite addicted to the series swaps :-)

Aack! I'm working on it, but having a bit of a block. Was preparing to grovel, but see that only a couple of people have persevered and sent. Can't pull an all-nighter tonight, but will try to finish and mail by Saturday... Sorry sorry.

My first-ever late swap. O the shame!

EEK! I just realized that I don't think I wrote enough. I used a piece of printer paper, and only wrote on one side. I wrote by hand, and I have smallish writing. Hope my partners will enjoy and forgive the length. : )

dispatches posted to agents cloverst & dotty-dotty

SummerLion 05/ 8/2007 #

JeweledClaws and kiakiali, please stand by... Your dispatches are on their way.

I received a letter yesterday from Val, aka dotty_dotty! Thanks so much!

SummerLion 05/11/2007 #

angellise97: Wow! very cool letter. I love the humor, and it was interesting to see how differently you approached it from the way I did.

Cloverst 05/12/2007 #

Mine are out from the UK so they may take a little while to get there. I'd love to hear more about where everyone was posted!

SummerLion 05/19/2007 #

Jeweled Claws and kiakiali, did you receive my letter?

SummerLion 05/28/2007 #

Cloverst, you are the best. Thank you for sharing your letter and dossier. I'm afraid the dragnet for this individual has failed miserably. He has been spotted in Las Vegas, yet again...

I'm Jennifer, the not-heard-from-in-well-past-a-month newcomer in a mess and wanting to catch up ASAP. I've been off-line all this time of silence and apparent absence. My WebTV system completely died on me, making it impossible for me to do anything on-line. Taking 100% full responsibility for totally messing up here, now that I've saved up and have a new system and am back on-line as of today, even though it's so ridiculously late and after the fact, may I please still send to my partners here? I mean to do right by everyone, no matter how long it takes me to completely get on course. I mean to begin IMMEDIATELY.
