Swap categories: Television  Movies  Letters & Writing
Number of people in swap:28
Location:International
Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:January 17, 2009
Date items must be sent by:April 5, 2009
Number of swap partners:2
Description:

This swap is for people who love to watch movies and would like to keep track of what they have seen and who would like to share their movie choices with two partners.

This swap is based on the 2008 Reading log swaps coordinated by Artistic last year which were great fun. Artistic agreed that this would be a fun twist to her idea. (Thanks again, Artistic!)

YouÒ€ℒll be sending your partners a movie log that contain your thoughts on all the movies you have seen in January, February, and March 2009. the movies can be seen at the theater, TV, videotape or DVD. The log can be in paper form, or CD or DVD. (Some of the book logs I received had been quite large. A CD file would cost less to send.) Also, the option of a DVD would be for those creative types who know how to put together movie clips, or maybe a PowerPoint presentation.

Please keep to respectable types of movies and presentations (no X-rated). We don't want any negative surprises when swap partners open their packages. Thanks!

In summary: 1. International (sent via the post, not email) 2. Two (2) partners 3. minimum requirements: 3 movies with actors, a synopsis of the plot, other interesting comments 4. No newbies. (Sorry). This is the first swap I have decided to coordinate and I want it to be a good experience for everyone Γ’β‚¬β€œ including me! If this one goes well, IÒ€ℒll probably be doing another one for the next quarter. 5. Rated players need a 4.8 or higher and have a completed profile.

LetÒ€ℒs have fun with this! (Thanks for looking!)

I hope the idea of a DVD-log is not too offputting for some swaps. I just thought itmight be fun for those who have new digital camera to consider maybe doing mini you-tube type clips of movie bits or of yourself doing a mini review of the show. It is up to you. All sorts of possibilities in this swap!

This swap sounds fun! Does "movies with actors" mean non-animated films?

Hmmmm, I had not thought about that! Actually, I was just relisting some of the info I thought should be added in the swap, but hey, animated movies are fun to watch too, so any movie for the general public would be fine.

I'm in and I'm a Netflix member, so if my partners happen to have Netflix accounts, we can share our lists that way as well.

I am delighted that someone else thinks something akin to mix DVDs would be fun!

ccap 12/29/2008 #

What fun!

I was also thinking in terms of people doing filmed movie reviews, where they use their own cameras to film themselves (or someone else) speaking their opinion of the movies they've seen - kind of youtube style. Just one of many ideas that come to mind when I think about this swap. I've been wanting to learn how to use my camera better and also how to do special effects on my computer. I thought this swap would give me the motivation and the focus to follow through. (Kind of goes along with New Years resolutions - a time to refocus your goals). Anyway, that is why I came up with this swap (as well as making me keep a list of the movies I watch).

Lately I've been questioning why I watch so many fairly violent, negative movies, and am now making a point to seek out films in which NOBODY DIES. Not liking mainstream comedies or "chick flicks," it's kind of hard. I'm hoping this project will answer some personal questions about my viewing choices... so if the log veers into navel-gazing, hopefully my partners will forgive me.

Do only films count, or epsiodes from series as well?

Starwatcher 01/ 9/2009 #

Hmm. I think only full sized movies should be included as part of the swap, though I guess you could add info about particular tv shows you like separately, as an extra. Otherwise this thing could be HUGE and take forever to watch or to read - what do the rest of you think? I'm only thinking about my house of course, and since the TV is on most evenings, especially with the new season beginning soon, To keep track of TV shows sounds like WORK to me! -- Though I could set up a TV log swap!

Good idea, Starwatcher! Thanks! I'll do it that way then - the main part about movies and an extra info about shows.

Quick question: When you say that it can be done in cd version do you mean a Word document saved to a cd and sent that way? We're only at January 13th and already mine is 5 pages long. Oy!

Starwatcher 01/15/2009 #

That is what I was thinking, ccap. I received a booklog that was 12 pages long and cost the swapper way more than necessary (in my eyes). And then storing it at my end! So I thought a word document stored on a CD would only cost maybe $1.20 or so to send - and would take a lot less space. A good option for some folks!

Partners are now assigned. I hope everyone enjoys this swap!

WOW! Have any of you seen "Taken" yet? Great show! Non stop action! I'm glad I didn't see it before my daughter moved to France for a year to go t school. Fortunately she had her boyfriend with her - but this show explains why it is best to be careful!

I mailed out my At the movies log today to two partners. Enjoy!
