We will study the Gospel of John in 7 parts, looking at 3 chapters per study. This is the first of the 7-part series.

You will read the first 3 chapters of John and then answer the questions below. Send your answers to your partner. Your Q & A may be typed or handwritten.

Chapter One Questions

  1. Who is Jesus?

  2. Why did Jesus come to earth?

  3. Why was it necessary for John the Baptist to be sent to bear witness to the light?

  4. What is grace? How is it different from mercy (not receiving a po punishment you deserve)?

  5. What is John's message of hope?

  6. How and why does John reference Isaiah 40?

Chapter Three Questions

  1. Who were the Pharisees and what did they do?

  2. What do we know about Nicodemus from this passage?

  3. Why are Jesus's words to Nicodemus a message of hope to sinners?

  4. How would you describe God to someone who has never heard of Him?

  5. Why is the word "For" at the beginning of John 3:16 so important?

  6. What does the word "condemned" mean? What does it mean to not be condemned?

  7. How is a wedding a picture of Christ and the church?

  8. What does it mean to approve or "set a seal"? How does a person set a deal that God is true?

  9. How does the difference between Old Testament prophets and Jesus give us assurance of His words?

  10. How does your belief in Jesus make a difference in your daily life?
