Description:

Hello my Swap Elves! Breadzim and I are currently tag flip-crazed and thought it would be fun to have a holiday/winter tag flip swap. So get out all of your holiday and winter cheer and go crazy with us!

That doesn’t sound awesome enough? Well, consider that these tags can individually be reused for gift giving! What? Adorable AND recyclable? It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

BORING STUFF

Must have a 5 rating and no recent 1’s or 3’s. Must have done at least 20 type 3 swaps. Well filled-out profile (we should need to scroll, yo). We have the right to reserve banning anyone from the swap. Also, USA only: we gotta save our $ for gifts this time of year and type 3’s can get expensive to ship locally.

FUN STUFF

Theme is versatile. Want to make a tag flip for your Jewish partner? Awesome! Just make sure to tell me where you got your Hanukkah cardstock/ephemera, because I’m totally jealous. Would you like to send your Christmas-obsessed recipient a Santa On The Beach tag flip? No problemo. Just make sure it is easily debatable under the winter/holiday theme and you’re golden.

  • Must include at least 4 tags, but the more the merrier.

  • Tags must be decorate on both sides.

  • Tag sizes can vary, but make sure that small tags don’t account for more than 25% of your total tags. (example: 1 out of 4 tags can be small, the rest should be larger).

  • Standard tag size, according to Ranger, etc: about 6” by 3”, can be larger, of course; use your best judgement. If you’d like to make a 2.5 x 5”, I doubt your partner will complain, but just keep the standard size tags or larger in mind to balance it, as that size is usually the expectation for tag flips.

  • Please dont make a tag out of thin paper. Use at least cardstock.. Otherwise the tag will likely rip due to decorative bulk/shipping.

  • Envelopes can also be a tag! Super fun to make your own and then fill with goodies and decorate. Get creative with what you can turn into a tag, and how to create pockets for goodies.

  • If you’re including a pack of goodies (like say a pack of stickers or confetti) make sure they’re decorated in the theme too, eg cover the top with cute paper and ephemera so branding isn’t visible. This does not include a roll of washi - those can go on the ring as is.

  • If you’re a DIY tassel-maker, feel free to go big or go home.

  • No sticker slapping, eg the tag must have at least two additional layers. Example: tag/background + layered ephemera + sticker = awesome. Even better example: tag/background + layered ephemera + chipboard sticker/wood veneer + sticker + enamel dots = holy amazeballs, Batman! (shock and awe)

  • Must be bound somehow. Can use sturdy ribbon or a binding ring or....

  • Please include a short note/letter about your winter/holiday plans and what is at the top of your wish list.

  • Include the name of the swap and your profile name somewhere on or in the package/tag flip/letter.

  • Mail packaging can be decorated in the theme but is NOT a requirement.

  • Be generous with <3’s if your partner made you something that rocked your fuzzy socks off. :)

HOW TO STUFF

PHEW! That’s a lot of instruction. But if you flip through some YouTube tag flip videos it should be fairly easy to accomplish the above. Take a look at the video below for an example (though I think her tags are only one sided. Pretend they’re double sided embellished.)

Link to a tag flip made last year is below. I tried to make this clickable to no avail; copy and paste, folks:

Also including a YT video tutorial from our very own Sarah (PaperLovely). It’s not holiday or winter themed, but she does SUCH a great job with it that I thought I’d share. All of her work is wonderful, actually, so peruse her channel when you have a moment:

PM me or Breadzim with questions or concerns (I might not see comments below in the timeframe that you need).

@Breadzim my pleasure, doll face. You know I love a good ‘flip! ;)

I should probably elaborate on the double sided decoration, yes?

Since these can be reused for the holiday gift giving season, leaving an open space for your partner to include to/from details (but decorated around, even with just a small sticker cluster) is totally fine. Or decorate the whole backside if you wish. Just try to make sure some effort is put into both sides of your tag, even if it’s simple.

Does that make sense?

Sorry for the delay in partner assigning. I picked up Noro right after thanksgiving and just now feeling better.

Craft on ladies! :)

Hi all,

Paige Evans made a mixed media tag album that incorporates many of the same tag flip concepts, so I thought I’d share, in case you’re still looking for inspiration!
