Description:

Hi! Since I've promised myself not to BUY any new fabric, I figured I could still swap some. :)

Here's a good way to add some variety to your stash.

You'll have two partners and you'll send each of them fabric that totals 20" (about 51 cm) square. The smallest piece should be no less than 4" (10cm) on one side. So it doesn't matter what size your pieces are, or how many you send (though I would send at LEAST two different fabrics), as long as it adds up to about 20" square. (E.g. you could send 16 5"x5" pieces, eight 5"x10" pieces, or two 10"x20" pieces.) Hope the math isn't too complicated there! Let me know if I need to explain more.

Please trim the pieces neatly and send only clean, unused fabric... nothing you wouldn't want to receive yourself. Thanks!

This is an international swap but you have to have rating of at least 4.0. Newbies must have a full profile. I will e-mail anyone I feel doubtful about.

Please don't post wish lists as I find it kind of kills the fun of swapping. DO, however, read the profile of your partner so you can have an idea of what they might like or dislike. Okay, have fun!

I am confused isn't 16 5x5 pieces way more than 20" square? I just want to be clear on requirements before signing up. Thanks!

evacorges 03/22/2007 #

Kristin - it is the same... imagine a grid with 20 inch squares left to right and 20 rows in total - that is 20" square. now if you have 5x5 pieces, 4 will fit across from left to right, and you can fit a total of 4 rows into the grid. That does make 4*4=16 pieces.

VelveteenRabbit 03/22/2007 #

Thanks for explaining, evacorges! I almost got the math wrong myself until I pictured the 20-inch-square grid. If anyone is confused, just take a piece of quad/graph paper and mark off a 20x20 square. That will help you see how many squares or rectangles of various sizes you can cut. Hope that makes sense! :)

VelveteenRabbit 03/22/2007 #

P.S. If you're confused, just cut 2 10x20 or 4 10x10 pieces and you'll have done well. :) If you're more adventurous and want to send smaller pieces, go for it! Just remember that the smallest you can go is 4x4 (25 of those... right?) >.<

niecedenise 03/22/2007 #

O good grief. My brain cant handle too much at a time. Its all I can do to read, sew, watch tv, talk on the phone and babysit 4 (under 4( grands at the same time. And now you want me to do math. Brainfry!!!

user6613 03/22/2007 #

NieceDenise, don't think of it as "math", think of it as a 20" square jigsaw puzzle... :-)

user6613 03/22/2007 #

By the way, it sounds like you've got (or at least need) about a dozen arms and eyes!

niecedenise 03/23/2007 #

Oh great, now I have to keep the babies from stealing the puzzle pices!

cmykrgb 03/30/2007 #

Thanks for running this swap! I too am on a strict fabric diet, no new purchases but trades are OK. That way the total fabric stash stays about the same amount.

I am currently working on I-Spy quilts using 6" squares, and also have plenty of 5" and 4" novelty charms cut. I can't wait to find out my swap partners so that I can choose fabrics to send that fit their preferences.

BTW, a square of 20"x20" ends up as 400 square inches. That may help some swappers figure out the minimum amount.

Wow now i'm trippin hard core lmao. I just found someone with my name on here. And so I added the S for the beginning of my last name. And I came in to let all the swaps I'm on know about it and low and behold it changed all of my post's by itself! WOW Swap bot really needs to fix that so no one has the same name.

cmykrgb 04/12/2007 #

A Spring snowstorm kept me in most of today, only went out once, crunching the ten steps through the ice-coated snowdrifts to the mailbox where I found a bright and sunny package of batiks from Hawaii! I loved the fabrics as well as the kawai (cute) letter from Noelle aka Honeybee. I'm definitely inspired to start a summer project with my new fabrics.

honeybee 04/13/2007 #

Cathy~ Brrr! I can't even imagine how cold it is where you live. Lucky I live in Hawai'i! Thank goodness I like batiks too. I'm glad you liked the selection I sent.

VelveteenRabbit 04/13/2007 #

Hi Luvsseattle, Well I just found out who my partners were in this swap and you are one. I went and read your message on you profile and I did not receive a package. But you didn't state weather or not you sent it either so I don't know if it's still on the way or not. And you didn't contact me. Can you please contact me by email, hlynns@roadrunner.com. Oh and I'm sorry you have having problems with the post office. :-)

VelveteenRabbit 04/24/2007 #

Okay, looks like we have a flaker: Accidents. (I'm giving Fiona the benefit of the doubt that her packages are still on the way because she's in the UK.) Kat and tiddlywinks, please let me know if you don't get anything from accidents. I know there's no obligation to arrange for swap fairies but if anyone's eager to send an extra package, let me know... I don't mind connecting you with one of these two ladies.

Thanks!

VelveteenRabbit 04/27/2007 #

I got your package today, inluvwithstars, and just left you glowing praise in your rating. :) Thanks!!

kusine 04/27/2007 #

Thanks, Katie (Luvseattle), I got your package today!
