Description:

For a long time, there have been no Prayer Flag swaps. These were earlier held in the Group Transcendence, but now the group is dormant. The world certainly needs more exchanged prayers, spread peace, shared enthusiasm.

Create one prayer flag for your partner to add to her string. Prayers/mantras/messages, colors, elements, text, and mediums are Sender's choice. No particular skills like sewing is necessary. Make the prayer flag a positive, hopeful one, serious is okay.

The purpose of this swap is to have flags to hang outside our homes and exposed to the elements in the manner the tibetans do - so that as the wind blows and the flags fade, the threads unravel - those wishes/positive mantras/prayers continue to be released into the world.

HOW TO MAKE PRAYER FLAGS: Cut pieces of fabric to 6" x 12". You can use fabric that is of the traditional 5 colors, or use any other color or colors you love. You may use materials you already have on hand. I welcome you to re-purpose materials you have.

Fold the top down on the piece of fabric and stitch in place (by hand or machine, or use a strong fabric adhesive) to create a 3" sleeve, making the flag surface 6" x 9". If using glue, make sure to use a sufficient amount to hold elements together as the flag is meant to hang outside. Leave the edges unfinished so they will unravel over time.

Paint, stitch, stamp, dye, embroider, applique, print, or collage the flags... whatever inspires you. Add words, or symbols as desired. You can appliqué letters, add hand stitching, stencil with textile paint, or just write with a permanent marker. However, when making it, do put your whole heart into it, & unleash your creativity. Yes, You are very creative.

Just remember - the style you send out may NOT be the style you get in return (you may embroider but your partner may paint theirs, for example). Please be considerate & do not down rate if you do not like the style, or what you got is too amateur for you. It is a prayer flag swap & we are doing it for positivity, our own, & the receiver's. ENJOY!

I'm not sure this gives me enough time to create a flag for my partner. I'm watching and hoping maybe you edit to give us a bit more time.

Yeah, the time to do this would take longer than listed....

I would love to do a prayer flag, but I am not good with strict size requirements. It stifles my creativity.

Okay! I've moved the send-by date to the end of Jan.

@Paulaeliza : Feel free to host a free-size, free-shape prayer flag sawp :) Otherwise, the size is the ONLY thing that this swap specifies ... It's virtually a "as-you-like"!

Partners assigned! Pity that 10 kept watching. Hopefully next month's will be more convenient for everyone
